Senate Dems changed the filibuster rules for appointments

Recommended Posts

I see your point and didn't want to seem inflammatory....would be nice to see term limits installed for congressional seats....problem is the voter already has the power of term limits but refuse to use it for their own selfish ends...

I understand.... My main thrust wuz tryin to point out the "reality" of the situation; along with noting the change in posture.... The best "term limit" is the ballot box; just as you have opined... I'm old enough to remember when a 30 year veteran of the senate wuz turned out over his vote for the infamous Gun Control Act of 1968.... His name, Albert Gore, Sr... It can be done if folks get mad enough at a  politician's actions...

Keep up the good work...

It's kind of fascinating to watch how both sides have magically flip flopped on this issue.  Back in 2005 it was Republicans screaming about the need to do away with the 60 vote supermajority to end a filibuster and go to a simple majority vote.  Back then it was the Democrats saying how horrible that would be and it would rape the constitution.  Here's articles from that time from both the left and the right:

It reminds me of a game of three card monte.

I can't see how anyone would be surprised about this. The democrats have been doing what ever they want to do since 2008 and the only chance of that ending is next year if folks will vote like they need to and they make sure the polls machines are not rigged like they were in 2012................jmho

Exactly.

Some folks couldn't stomach Romney so we shouldn't be surprised by anything that comes out of this administration.

All those folks that were sitting at home in 2012 are still just as disgusted, nothing will change accept for the worse.

The only thing that might change is then the Republicans will be doing whatever it is they like.  And that's not necessarily a great thing.

I firmly believe the Republicans are glad this happened, just in case they are ever in a majority situation again.  I can guarantee you that rule is not going to change if they ever do.  They can then use it as needed but can point back to the dems, like the little children they all are, and say "well, they started it".

Todays Senate Republicans will never do that, they are sitting there with their thumbs up there butts wondering what to do next. They don't have any spines either otherwise every last one of them would be calling Dingy Reid out.

Seems we're all similarly disgusted by Reid's stunt.  The rest of America yawns & changes the channel ... and THAT is what has doomed the union.

Obama/Reid have ensured a few more judges, regulators & hi-level bureaucrats get fast-tracked into positions - some tenured for life ... that's merely nails in the coffin.

Your right to a point Kieefer about the republicans mostly sitting around with their thumbs up their butts "to a Point" but in many cases as long as Reid remains at the helm in the Senate does it really matter what the House does? Yea they can fight and argue over the purse power but if they send any type of bill to the Senate Reid throws it in the trash. I think last count over 1100 Bills have been presented to the Senate for a vote and three of them have been voted on and the only reason they voted on them was because a lot of House Democrats were part of writing the Bills. After a while it gets to a point of it being pointless to send a bill to the Senate Floor knowing Reid will never bring it to a vote. Dirty Harry has done as much damage to America if not more than Obama has in......................... mho

Assuming there's a 'next time' the GOP has the House & Senate, let's see how they actually govern vice play politics.  The House has thrown a lot of bills over to the Senate for the express purpose of having them killed by Reid, all to score political points.  They want to play up to us conservatives that they're for real - we just have to give them another chance.  But we've seen some of these establishment GOP rascals in power - not that long ago they had all the power they needed to make good things happen, and they failed - miserably.   What did they do to deconstruct federal tyranny?  I can't think of a courageous GOP stand against progressive liberalism in a long, long time.  Maybe welfare reform of the 90s.  Individuals, like Cruz & Paul - they're great ... but the last time I remember the party getting behind a liberty-loving platform were the Reagan years, and many came kicking & screaming.

I abhor Harry Reid.  I'd have a beer w/ McConnell, but would never turn my back on him either.  And that's the way I feel about most of the GOP guys who've been on the Hill for a decade or more.

Minor edit - I don't think I could enjoy a beer w/ Bob or Lamar.  Maybe a quick tequila shot - over & done with.

I agree wit you completely TNS. I think that there are a lot of long time GOP reps in the House and the Senate that either need to begin to work with the new younger members in both House and Senate instead of criticizing or make plans for retirement because they need to be replaced. I think if enough folks write their respective Representatives that have been in office for long terms and tell them they have options of working with the new elected folks or make retirement plans at next election there may be some new attention paid to reach out to the young guns that were elected by the people just as they were back years ago and that was to serve the People and not serve themselves.............jmho

Term limits is too easy. It would only mean that fewer voters would turn out since they can claim they didn't see the need. "That

guy's out. Great!" What if that guy was one of the good ones? Sometimes it's difficult to find replacements. It's a poor excuse

for those who wish to not get their hands dirty and push a button or put an "X" on a piece of paper.

Like all those who think it's wrong to talk about religion and politics, if you don't, and you forget what you're for, you just gave up

your life to someone you might not like being in control of it. There are Chuck Shumers in this state, not saying Lamar isn't that

far removed, but they do exist. If you don't want any part in the process, walk away, but don't come crying when things get worse.

There may be little pity left for you.

I would. Well, I would if the lever opened a trap door...

Yep. I'm skeered of what they're gonna try and sneak through, unread and unchallenged, because of time restraints, in the next 2 years. This is the most aggressive Socialist bunch ever and I don't trust'm for sh*t! I sho' don't trust what they say this will be used for and it's just wrong, on all fronts.

I think they are fearing unintended consequences from all the latest fiasco's and they are trying to stack the lower courts.

Exactly!

The lies get bigger & bigger.

Americans are waking up and the left knows it.

Sooner or later it catches up.

No offense Chief ... but I'm not meeting too many of these awake Americans.  Meeting them through TGO, but most of the folks I meet in my county are not just asleep, but comatose.

The American people were totally stupid to fall for the "Hope and Change" mantra when his "Fundandametally Transformation of America" only meant to change America into an Amerika communist utopia. Who in their right mind could fall for this communist mantra from a relatively unknown politician from Chicago with a Muslim name when America had been fighting Muslim terrorists. Only people with their head in the sand could fall for this communist BS. Now some of these semi comatose people are waking up to the foul odor emanating from the WH, and seeing sticker $ shock from their stupidity and the consequences of their vote.
