Lets see your battle gear/vests

Recommended Posts

I was reading a post this morning and it made me think about starting a picture thread of what people are running for rigs. If this has already been done my apologies.

I am running a TYR PICO with level 3a soft armor and ESAPI plates. Some HSGI taco pistol pouches and that's it. I love it nice and simple.

The belt is solid HSGI. And it has a G-code RTI holster setup. That way I can swap out holsters at the push of a button and run a different set up.

Custom made PACA vest with the lightest 3A soft armor (at the time) made. Full wrap around 3A protection.
Seven Tactical Taylor AR pouches and two of their mag pouches. As well as a few other admin/donut/cupcake/comms pouches.
Lightweight 3A helmet.
North American Rescue Products CCRK.

Serpa "Holster of death" for my 1911.

I also carried a "3 day" pack with other stuff I might need like another 20 magazines, food, water, first aid, batteries and secondary communications.

I still need to pick up some plates. I always used the ones issued to save shipping weight when heading overseas. Probably going to order some steel plates from these guys:

I prefer steel over ceramic because of the ease of getting into and out of vehicles.

I will post pictures later since I'm work and can't access them:

ATS Tactical War belt with just a small med pouch with basic items, safariland 6004 holster riding high (cut off the top belt to allow it to ride higher)

ATS M4 Chest harness with padded shoulder straps, large GP pouch

Looking at the BFG LMAC or the Mayflower APC, and then find some plates for it..

Are we talking full loadout or just everyday carry?  I don't have the former though I am working on a plate carrier for just general fun and training.  Here's what I would have the other 97% of the time:

Glock 19 w/TLR1 in a Raven, or without in an MDJ hybrid.

what is a general rule of thumb on sizing on these vests? I see them sized s/m and l/xl....but I don't really see actual size measurements for fit....

Most of them are very adjustable, especially chest rigs.

Tapatalk ate my spelling.

I suspect most don't have any. Though I have to say that even if I ever do, I won't (IYKWIM). It's a pricey item for something that might never be needed and certainly would not be needed for everyday use (for SHTF occasions, that's the equivalent of several months worth of provisions).

With that said, I certainly am not trying to put down those who do have it. I would be interested to hear out of those who do have it, how many are previously military (again, not to put anyone down, just curious as to how that plays into things).

I did the same. I've always had a vest at home since the military then once becoming a contractor I decided to upgrade and get something I can actually use and train with at home. I'm not a big fan of just blasting ammo. I like to train when I shoot. It's a perishable skill so why not keep that skill in tip top shape? I shoot at sumner gun and supply a lot. Usually more than once a week. And you'll always see me running at least my belt. A lot of people might think its a little over the top, but for me, totally worth it.

Ill update to what they are tomorrow... I am up a little late.

PIG pc in MC. I have kevlar backers and training plates for home use as they issue ESAPI when I would need them. I have the elastic cummerbund on since I am not going to be wearing side plates for anything outside of centcom.  3 2xmag Tactical Tailor Fight Light Mag carriers. HSGI bleeder pouch with an ITS Trauma kit. A SOF T tourniquet in a Tourniquest Now strap. On the back is a 2L hydration system. I do not recall the MBITR pouch maker. The not worn cummerbund is for the side plates. I have a horizontal Tactial Tailor Accessory Pouch where as on the belt I am using a vertical one.

HSGI belt with cobra riggers belt. Safari holster I forget the particular model but it is for the M9 as that was what I was carrying. Tactical Tailor Accessory Pouch and a  couple of Flashbang / Smoke pouches that I cant identify at teh moment. I also have a BFG Ten-Speed double pistol mag pouch.  I think that is everything.

How do you like that PIG PC? Saw it on skdtac, but leaning towards the Mayflower APC.

Someone mentioned .mil guys preferring to get armor, I got out before plates to were issued to non-SpecOps guys, but due to some class I'm interested plates are required as well as helmet. (I have a MICH with Wilcox NVG Mount). The LBE and then LBV both worked well for the environments I dealt with when I was in (Jungle, regular US backcountry) and I still have my LBE (modified for jungle, 4x ammo pouches, 2 canteens, butt pack, y harness, will all clips replaced with 550 cord).

I like it but I am sure the APC would be very similiar. I got the PIG before it went up in price a couple years ago.

I dont think velcro is the best attachment idea for the cummerbund. I wish the tube solution that First Spear created had been around when I purchased my kit. I think that is a superior method but I havent tried it. My velcro is fraying along the edges. I would probably go with a tan color if I was to buy it today. The individual mag pouches could then be camo if it is required.

I got my new SOE gear .308 micro rig in today. Took it for a walk in the woods as soon as I got it packed.
