Today I purchased a Savage model 10 fcp-sr. Its a 308 with a 24" fluted and threaded bull barrel with 1 in 10" twist.

I am looking for a scope in the $500 or less range. I'd like something with at least 15x magnification (on the hi side) and a mil-dot reticle and maybe a 50 mm objective. This is uncharted territory for me as the most expensive scope I have is a $100 3x9x40mm bushnell. Any input is appreciated. I just don't want to blow that much money on something that won't track or that will break on the first range trip. Edited by z0mbies fear me

Check out the Nikon Buckmaster line. They're under $500, have great clarity and mine has held its zero since day one (approx 4 years now?).
Mine's mounted on a Remington 700P. Posted Image

There are 2 excellent deals out there right now for like new Vortex Viper PSTs in 4-16 & 6-24x50 FFP with EBR-1 (MRAD) reticle for $750 each.  These normally go for right at $1k and are excellent optics. If you want the details PM me. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vortex-viper-pst-6-24x50-ffp-riflescope-with-ebr-1-mrad-reticle

Ow. I just paid $950 for a PST 6-24x50 FFP. Should be showing up any minute. It's a new one, though. I saw one of those $750 deals.

I know its a good deal - I wish it wasn't this time of the year or I would have picked one of those up myself.  Some like that I hate to pass up - I made a trade +cash offer but no dice for me.

It's a helluva scope. I got the MOA version. I'm really gonna enjoy it.

EDIT: Got it. It's a pretty thing.

I believe I am going to go with a Vortex scope. I bought a vortex diamondback 4-12x40 for $100 off a buddy of mine this morning and I was rather impressed. Just going to do a little more research on their different models to see which one is worthy of riding atop my rifle. ;)
