It rained today. Sat in a barn loft all morning. Was nice and dry and warm with my camp chair and propane heater. Decided to get in a stand in the afternoon cause i thought the rain was gonna back off. Yeah it rained more. My new Browning Hells Canyon Nitro gear doesn't leak at all. Damn good stuff. My boots apparently do now. Stepped though a creek and got wet feet. And by God it was foggy this afternoon! I could see about 20 yds avg from 2-dark. Shoulda hunted the barn in the afternoon.
And I saw 1 deer. It was a small racked buck that hit the woods when i pulled into a field to look for a Christmas tree.
Pretty crappy day.

Oh and yesterday I took my little boy deer hunting for the first time. He's been saying "me go huntin with you" every time I put camo on for the last 2 months. I've had a cold and didn't figure I really need to be out in it. So as I was getting ready to leave I decided we'd all go and just sit in the truck overlooking a field and have a family hunting trip. Me, my wife, my son, and my daughter all got camo on and headed out. On the way there he decided he'd up his participation level and said "you let me shoot deer" I replied "dude you're 2, it ain't gonna happen. You're gonna have to wait a while on that" lol.
We all sat and watched the field and ate pretzels and candy and looked through binoculars backwards. Nothing came out but we had fun.

Right after we left the farm as we were coming through Gordonsville they were all lined up about to start their Christmas parade. So we figured we'd just ease into town and get out and watch that too. He saw Santa and had a even better day.

So now my 2yo and 1yo have been hunting I guess.

You just made memories and gained a hunting partner for life. Then when he shoots first deer......well, you'll never feel emotion like that ever again!

I ended up taking a big doe.

Awesome! I took yesterday off after the ordeal Saturday but need to get back out there because I'd like to take at least 3 more.

I can't believe we only have a few weeks left in the hunting season!! Boy this season has sure flown by and I am sad to see it go. But I'll be darned if my mind hasn't already switched over to thinking about turkey season!! I clearly have lots of mental stress when it comes to the outdoors. I wait in high anticipation of deer season, then turkey season, then fishing, then dove then back to deer and repeat every year for the rest of my life. In between all that I enjoy camping, backpacking and doing improvements to our land.

Was it somewhere around Hamilton County?  I'm no expert but I've noticed some of the high racked bucks seem to be a bit heavier & healthier this year.

His collection of trophies is getting off to a good start! Bobcats are very hard to get, so he should be proud of that one.

Grabbed my pop up this morning and hit the woods even though it was raining. Soon as the rain let up a little three small yearlings walked 20 yards in front of my blind. Let them walk but cool to see!
