I'm sure some of you are checking your deer online.  This is the first year since the online check in that I have taken multiple deer at once.  (Unit L)  I couldn't figure out if I had to go through the process with each deer or just tag one?

With each deer.  You can shoot up to 3 deer per day in Unit L, which means you would need to log each of the 3 deer individualy.

Thought there was another thread on .223 but can't seem to find it, so if there was,...sorry. Anyway, here's my experience the first time usin' DRT 79gr .223 ammo on a deer. Killed a small/medium sized doe 'bout 20 before last call last night. After field dressin' and cleanin' here's the damage done. I shot her from approx. 18-20yds dead center just behind the shoulder on the left side. She ran maybe another 18 yds then slid down the hill for a 25 total. The bullet went in with a tiny hole but blew out a silver dollar size chunk of ribs then pierced the left lung before it started comin' apart, then it blew the whole top half of the heart off severing all the arteries, turned the right lung to chop suey with the biggest part of the bullet goin' through the right side with another silver dollar sized hole in the ribs, out the right side of her but it also liquified the liver (biggest piece was maybe the size of a walnut, only two pieces that weren't liquid) with one piece of bullet punchin' a quarter sized hole in the stomach and another goin' into the inside of the right shoulder several inches away from the exit wound and tearin' that all up, too. The only thing it didn't damage were the kidneys and bowels. That deer was dead when it took off a runnin' outta shear fear. I really didn't think it would do that much damage at that close a range but it did. I'm a believer in DRT. Now, I got find me a nice buck.

Anyone else got a big day of hunting planned tomorrow? Gonna be nice and chilly, so I can't wait to get up in the morning. I'm crossing my fingers that all the rain has had them bedded down and in the morning they will really be moving. Has anyone seen anymore sign of bucks running does? Seems that it's pretty much over, but I'm still holding out for a nice buck just strolling around.

I'm getting up in the morning to go. Weather shows about 30 degrees with 10% chance of precipitation and 13mph wind. Should be excellent hunting conditions, similar to Thanksgiving day when we saw a bunch moving.
Hunting the ridge line again, if weather was worse tonight or if colder in the morning i would hunt the field but sticking to sheltered ridge and acorns tomorrow.

I'm thinking of staying in the woods myself and the only thing stopping me from for sure going is the fact that I will have a wet seat. I left my climber hooked to the tree the Thurs. night thinking i'd be back in it Fri. morning but things changed and I didn't get back before it rained. I guess I will have to find something quiet and water proof to lay in the seat. Bad thing is that my stand isn't hunting where I would really like it to be for in the morning. Good luck!

I would love to go, but we are covered in ice at the moment!

Come on now Dave, lace up the ice skates and glide on out to your stand  :woohoo:

I can't say much though, I stayed in this morning. The wind was really kicking up the drawl I was going to sit in so I decided i'd see what happens mid day.

I went and didn't realize that freezing rain had hit the farm overnight until I got halfway to the stand. I went ahead and carefully climbed the ladder and sat anyways, but at 8:30 with no movement I climbed down and came home. It was flurrying a bit at the farm too but not my house -about 20 minutes apart.
Will see what the weather is like and may head back this afternoon. I want to put 3 more I'm the freezer and with my work schedule I only get the weekends.

If you place any faith in the lunar tables, this afternoon right before sunset should be great. I look at the tables but don't rely on them.
I plan on being back on the ridge line right after lunch.

Maybe 3 weeks, ago but not since then. Just does runnin' 'round in small packs or by  themselves. Still hopin' that 8 pointer I saw chasin' does by my blind will stroll through there when I'm in it. Should be out there today but me and 23* don't get along so well. Sucks gettin' old and havin' ol'Arthur taggin' along.

Haven't really had the chance to apply that to deer huntin' but I used to follow it faithfully when fishin' and it rarely let me down.

I was in the stand at 5:15, started snowing shortly after daybreak. I saw absolutely nothing. Came out at 10:15 and the whole way home, all the usual places I always see deer, nothing. I figured the rain yesterday would  have them really active this morning. If they were, it wasn't where I'm hunting lol.

I don't know how much hunting I'll get in this weekend or Monday. Tuesday I have to go look at an 80 acre lease that hasn't been hunted in about three years. A local lady's husband passed away a couple of years ago, and she wants to lease to me. The land has never been leased before, and her husband didn't get to hunt it much. Now I have to find a couple good honest folks that want to go in on a lease, possibly long term.

To bad it's so far from me. One day I'm going to buy a cheap travel trailer that is decent enough to park on a lease somewhere so I can use it as a get away.

You have to be excited about checking that place out! Let me know if you don't have enough people for the lease. I obviously couldn't drive up to Clarksville every weekend but it would still be worth it. Probably covered in deer since it's been sitting unhunted for so long. Have fun checking it out.

Yeah, and fall and bust my hiny and throw my hip out...yeah, I'll get right on that! My stand is all the way uphill. That's the problem. Getting down is the easy part. That's a sled riding story for another day...

You are exactly right. I have to move down a couple bluffs that are 5-6' tall to get to my stand and when they are wet the moss on them is really slick so I didn't see much future in trying to navigate them in the dark with a layer of ice over them. Against my better judgment i'm going to head out there in about 30min and see what I can scrounge up.

Man, I wish I felt up to gettin' in my blind. I just have this feelin' that this evenin' will be buck spottin' time. Arthur disagrees with me, though.

Anyone have luck? I didn't see anything

I was smoking Canadian Bacon, Bacon and Breakfast Sausage. That's how my day went. I didn't hunt.
