Since rifle season opens up next weekend I checked the rifles I will hunt with this season. One is a FNH FNAR in 308 shooting Hornady 150gr sst factory load and the other is a Remmy 700 in 300blk using 125gr nosler. Top 2 holes are from the 308 and center bottom is from the remmy 300blk. Both rifles were shot from 100 yards

I've been wantin' to build a 300BLK AR and from the looks of those holes, I should be well pleased with it. I rarely shoot at anything past 250 anyway so it should serve just fine for deer or whatnot. Cool comparison.

I would assume the .308 is moving at a higher velocity and therefore punched through quicker leaving a closer to original diametet hole, whereas the .300blk was moving at a slower velocity and mushroomed a bit as it entered creating a bigger hole. Of course, not using the same bullet on each would change the results also.

That's kind of what I assumed also. I may load a few 125 also and run them through the FNAR and compare that way.

A very large power differential , the larger hole has to be the difference in the bullet or from what it hit.

As I understand these are the differences :

.308
Test Barrel (24") Velocity (fps) / Energy (ft-lbs)
MUZZLE 100 200 300 400 500
2820/2648 2601/2252 2392/1905 2192/1601 2003/1336 1823/1107

Caliber: .300 AAC Blackout
Grain: 125
Type: Ballistic Tip
Bullet Manufacturer: Nosler
Velocity: 2170 fps.
Energy: 1,343 Ft. lbs.

Barrel length of course as well as gas length on an AR will make differences , I don't know the barrel length on the .300 statistics.
