2 hours, 1 minute, & 7 launched detent springs later...

Recommended Posts

I finished my first lower. I know that untold millions have done so but it is still a first for me. It might have gone a little faster if I hadn't kept being distracted by the Georgia - Auburn game.

Every time I launched a spring I looked over at the clear quilt storage bag I had to control that and decided that I really didn't need it as I wouldn't let that happen again...

Oh well, at least I found the spring every time.

Built a Spike's blem lower I got from Aim supply. I was so pumped about building the TGO lower that I just couldn't wait. Originally I was going to build this one for practice and do something with it later but then swmbo mentioned that she might like a carbine soon so the plan came together. I have a BCM upper headed my way and It will go under the Christmas tree sometime Christmas eve.

This actually worked out well as I wanted to take my time on the TGO lower and get it coated with a cera-kote and now I don't have to cram that in before Christmas.

I read a lot of threads and watched several videos that folks here posted and everything was very helpful so thanks...

Who knew we married sisters...

I am a Tn fan but the game looked good so I started watching it. My wife had already given up (too much of a fair weather fan) and was in a different part of the house.

I had the game on in the office where I was building the lower and didn't tell her that the dogs were catching up. She came in right after they took the lead and suddenly she was a die hard fan again. She sat there for the last 2 minutes and watched the miracle catch and got depressed again.

I of course took the opportunity to tell her that she was bad luck and that the only reason the dogs lost was because she started watching again.

good times...

Hey Mac, do you know someone that engraves dust covers? I see a bunch that are pre-engraved but haven't found someone that admits to doing it.

I would really like to get a picture of a bulldog engraved on the dust cover of the carbine she is getting for Christmas. I would also like to engrave the phrase "War Dawg" on it.

She would actually think I was cool for a few minutes and I have to grab that feeling when I can.

It makes for a rather expensive dust cover - but I've seen the work these guys do:

A dust cover is flat enough and simple enough that you could probably take a standard one to a local trophy shop as well and have them do it,

A wee bit off topic, (not by much since we are talking about a Spike's lower and the have the logo engraved on some of their lowers), but what's the significance of the Jolly Roger on gun parts these days? I totally don't get it.

Myabe some people still like to talk like a pirate.

Some springs have enough personality to earn their own names.  My favorite is the Jesus spring.  This one is the detent spring that powers the S&W revolver adjustable rear sight windage drum.  When one of these springs gets loose during installation and flies over your shoulder, your head snaps around trying to watch where it fell while whispering "Jesus".  Yup, some springs earn their names.  This is the same as with AR detent springs, you need to keep a few spares, just in case.
