Remember the movie The Human Centipede? Well guess what?

The wrap of the filming of "Tusk" is complete. If you havent heard of thise movie here is the synopsis announced today/

"Kevin Smith has wrapped filming his horror film TUSK, a story about a man (Michael Parks) who kidnaps and surgically turns a younger man (Justin Long) into a walrus"

WHAT?!   Why the hey would even a psycho want to turn someone into a WALRUS?

Right on target, Lester. And your comments made me remember Heinlein's story. I loved his writing, at least until he enter his second or third puberty phase and all he could write was sex.

Seemed that after the 70s he let his socialist views really come out.

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but the only socialist story I can recall of Heinlein was "For Us the Living" which was the first book he wrote soon after he was dismissed from the navy with chronic TB, in the middle of the depression. He was later "ashamed" of that first effort and never allowed it to be read or published while he was living. After his demise it got dragged out and published because so many fans were curious about it. I never read that one, because most reviews say it sucks and was deservedly kept from publication by the old man.

He had organic brain syndrome from circulatory problems in his later years, and his later work was rambling and spotty, both good parts and bad parts in each book. But some his better stuff was from that period, if you don't pay excessively close attention to the flaws.

IMO Heinlein's least interesting books were "I Will Fear No Evil" that was way too touchie-feelie, uninteresting with scant plot action. "To Sail Beyond the Sunset" his last novel before death, where IMO he had just run out of gas and didn't have enough left to write about. And "The Man Who Sold the Moon" which is a dull recounting of fictional big business deals in setting up the first space tech corporation.

Now on his fixation with sex in the later books-- After all, it is fantasy or science fiction ya know. Not very realistic IMO, but swords, sorcery, brain transplants and faster than light travel are not especially realistic either, according to what is known today. The ultimate summary of human nature regarding sex, unless and until human nature radically changes, is summarized by the ancient anonymous verse--

Hogamous, Higamous,
Man is polygamous,
Higamous, Hogamous,
Woman is monagamous.

The source of this immortal wisdom is unknown, (mis)attributed to several authors. Here is an interesting link which discusses the ditty's origin-- http://quoteinvestigator.com/2012/03/28/hogamous/

Lester, my comment was directed more toward his general works than a specific story. I'll try to find the book/story that really stood out for me and let you know. Most of my remaining Heinlein books are packed away at the moment.

The majority were lost in the 2010 flooding, and I've not replaced them as yet.

For a really bad, but great movie, check out "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist". The movie is silly and makes very little sense, but becomes great if you realize that the movie maker cut up old kung fu movies and spliced them together and digitally added himself to the scenes to make a whole new movie. It's kind of funny like those clips of shows with bad lip reading.

[quote name="hipower" post="1065122" timestamp="1384729726"]Jason Statham is the Boss!! I'll even watch some of the movies where he has hair.

Redeption was awesome. Some of the best acting he's done.

Oblivion was kinda cool. A little transparent though. Didn't take long to see where it was headed.

Watched man of Steel last night. Fair. I'm still undecided about it overall though. But sure beat the heck out of the last Superman installment.[/quote

Kinda like to find Lock, Stock and Two Barrels, Jason's first movie ?
Might be a CD Warehouse search?

Pacific rim sucked. Anyone catch the part in there where they explain that this was all caused by global warming? Yep, they snuck that in.

One of the reasons I couldnt stand Man of Steel. From the opening with the Whales to the "bad" loggers to constant references to pollution leading up to environmental recklessness that causes the Earths Core to melt (Environmental Recklensness is Roger Eberts words . Felt like I was watching a commercial for "Save the Planet". Was going to comment on that on the Movie Forums and sites I go to but was too late, 10,000 people already had and this was on opening night.

As HuffandPuff Post called it, its Apocolyptic Eco Justice.

If your still waiting to see it on DVD or Streaming, be prepared to have your senses assaulted with one reference after the other about how everything we do is destroying the plantet and how in the end what we do (You damn miners) will eventually cause the Earth to be destroyed.

Superman fans want so bad to go back to that 1st (or was it 2nd) Superman since Christopher Reeves did his several, that they can overlook the fact that the word Superman was mentioned exactly ONCE in the entire movie, Superman ends up as nothing but the back story in that 150 million dollar (Or whatever it was) Environmental Commercial.

By 30 minutes in the only thing I was thinking was "So Al Gore really is a Director"

Yeah, I'm really tired of being lectured about gloBULL warming (oh, wait, it's called climate change now, isn't it?) and the environment that seems to be present in almost every single modern science fiction film. Humans destroyed the earth, blah, blah, blah.

I wonder what kind of carbon footprint a production company leaves behind nowadays, especially when they have to use ungodly amounts of fossil fuels and electricity to transport all that equipment and personnel to and from the location being used and then to get their second rate films to the silver screen?

That was Krypton man it wasn't Earth!!  I know I'm rationalizing.  I think the whole "Superman" thing had more to do with Smallville than anything else. I just don't know what it is with DC comics that they can't get right.  Yes there are remakes of Marvel super heros but only after Marvel got the rights back and made a better movie.

Intergallactic Ecosystem Assault may need to be its own thread!   :)

WARNING:  t hr e a   d   d r   i    f       t......

I can't stand pseudo-science one bit, but I don't need anyone's twisted data (and they do twist it) to know that there are more of us humans on the planet using (consuming) an inconcievably larger quantity of resources than generations before us  - this increase in both population and per-capita resource consumption has been and is happening at an exponential rate.

Think of it like building a theater:

Home Theater: - low traffic, light wear on the surfaces/seating, lavatory to serve one at a time.

Commercial Theater: - extremely high traffic, extreme wear on surfaces/seating, lavatory to service 20+ (men & women) at a time.

If I know the demans of a facility, I install appropriate components to handle the high demand on those components.  With our ecosystem, we can't just retrofit the planet to fit our increased use.  For this reason, as we experience increases in our demands from our ecosystem, we might be wise to devise ways to decrease our impact relative to our increased use.  We won't get it perfect, but giving it an honest effort and our best shot sure seems to be the "right thing" to do for our kiddos.  I don't buy the over-hyped wacko-crap that many use to justify their next grant for climate research.... but....  the ball is ours to pick up... if no one is looking at the larger picture of our ecosystem rationally, then the emotional/scare tactics will eventually win - and we will end up with policies and expenditures toward large-scale endeavors based on emotional wants rather than factual needs - leaving us without the resources and political will to actually make a difference if the situation ever becomes dire.

At its root, it's not biology or chemistry, it is very simple math.

Im all about not intentionally destroying the earth ,My grandkids have to live here, and their and theirs and theirs, would be nice if they might still be able to see a Forest in 200 years, fortunately there is more Forest today than there was 125 years ago. Loggers know how to rejuvenate forests, they dont just go out cut down forests and let the earth die (As most tree huggers would have us believe) same with miners and drillers. I have seen what was left in Colorado after the miners were done 100 years ago, not pretty, but when miners and drillers are done today, about the only thing they leave is a hole, and usually not a big one, if any.

What I dont agree with is "Scientists Algore supports Global Warming Initiatives - Global Warming Inititatives lead to Carbon  Credits regulated and mandated on Corporations - Scentist Algore heavily invests in several companies, one being Generation Investment Management, Companies who hold portfolios heavily invested in Carbon Credits - Scientist Algore gets super rich - It's OK to pollute, so long as you pay us to do it.

It's not Environmentalism, its Environmental Extortion. From the same people who brought you Obamacare and "The War on American Citizens who are keeping the country running (Coal Miners)

BOT. Yep, the mining was Kryptonite. The rest was earth.

Well, speaking of weird movies-- Yesterday I accidentally happened upon this bollywood music video for a movie. It is wrong to really call it weird merely because it seems strange to me. Most likely quite ordinary for a billion people on the planet. But tis interesting. Makes me laugh, uplifts my spirits. I'm not laughing at them, more laughing with them. Or something or the other.

It seems very well done in a bizzarre sort of way. I mean, what could suck worse than mainstream hollywood?

I've been stuck on Top Gear, lately. There's a bunch of episodes of British silliness to get through before I get bored again.

I watched Pacific Rim over the weekend. It was a little over the top, but I thought it was OK, at least for the effects. The one thing that hit me in the middle of the movie, was this was a remake of the old Godzilla movies. It had big, nearly unbeatable monsters from space or under the sea somewhere, the Asian setting, nukes were involved, the monsters breathed fire or acid and could fly around, and they stomped thru the cities destroying everything.

I did find it interesting that both Jax and Clay from Sons of Anarchy were stars in the movie.
