Photographer Goes Head to Head with Young Elk

Why did none of the other cars try to get closer and help the guy? They all stopped "safe" distances away and watched!

As a photographer that has taken some questionable chances to get a shot, I wouldn't have helped him because his stupidity got him into that mess.  I feel bad that the elk had to die because of his stupidity.

The elk didn't die solely because of him. The park service had already labelled that animal as a "problem child" due to its willingness to accept food from people. The elk wasn't being aggressive, it just wanted a snack. This incident was just the proverbial last straw.

It was not the Elk's fault: humans had to have been feeding him to begin with.
