ok, I don't mind telling folks I am computer illitrate when it comes to stuff like this but my explorer is telling me I need to upgrade my browser and it recomends a couple. It offers   Safari,  O,  Chrome and Firefox. I just dumped fire fox because AVG said it was not working properly so I won't try it again. Now my question is are there other browsers out there someone would recommend I try. I have heard few negatives about chrome also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

   thanks  Bersaguy

I use firefox and have good luck with it, on mac, pc and android. With all the privacy plugins enabled.

It is frustrating to use on "fancy" websites with lots of java and such (news sites, to watch videos, etc). I can "temporarily unlock" those sites just to watch a video. The only one "permanently unlocked" is TGO.

If I want to do a lot of shopping and don't want to fool with manually unlocking all the "full featured" sites, I just run safari on mac and it displays all the pages correctly, automatically, and also lets google and everybody else under the sun track me and splatter all the "targeted advertising" all over the screen. Otherwise, I don't mind using firefox with all the privacy plugins locked down. If some news site with a zillion trackers and scripts refuses to display correctly when I click from drudge, then screw em, I don't need to read the article or see the video that bad.

Are you on a Mac or what? I can't image that IE itself is suggesting you change to another browser? That's certainly very un-MicroSoftish.

But anyway, Ive run Firefox since early on  with Win 98, XP, and 7 (maybe Win 95 too, I can't remember)

I've also used AVG Free for many years now, at least since Win 98SE, no interactive probs with FireFox.

What was AVG's complaint? Perhaps you had some extension or addon you added to FireFox that is opening up some vulnerability that FireFox doesn't report but AVG does? Also you could check same in IE, btw.

Look in Tools/Add Ons to see what all you were running, checked for updating and/or any FireFox notices about them? In IE, it's Tools/Manage Add Ons.

Sure use Chrome if you want google and all their strategic partners tracking every little bit of your online activity.

I use Firefox exclusively as well (laptops and GS3 Android phone), but I don't run AVG. I don't like IE...Period, and haven't tried the others you mentioned. Try using the actual Firefox browser, not Monzilla...Whatever that is.

I like Chrome. And it has an option I use a lot. If you right click on a link you can open it in an incognito window. If I understand what I've read about it if the site leaves any tracking cookies they are erased when you close the window and the site can't see what cookies are already on you computer.

Well, when I had firefox it came with a program called Monzilla. And when I would visit a site it would say Monzilla fire fox. I have not just tried firefox by itself. Like I said I am 95% illiterate on these things. When I  go check my email on google it requests I updtae my browser and Chrome if offered and firefox is offer, Safari is offered and Opera is offere and all are free downloads. I know soon I am going to have to upgrade my computer or buy a new one as theis one is about 10 years old and still running windows xp. I have got  afew messages telling me windows xp will be going away in December. Probably going to get a ap top this time with all the new upgades since my grandson works for Dell might have him get me one on his discount. Just need to keep this one going for a couple more months. Avg says that firefox was slowing down my computer but may be because of the Monzilla program. I might just see if I can download just firefox and see if it brings monzilla with it? I can always remove it if it does and shop elsewhere. Again thansk for all the help folks.

Can't go wrong with Firefox or Chrome, though you need a newish computer to run Chrome, anything remotely older and it wants to crash the computer, I think, via the graphics card but I'm no guru so I'm unsure. This happens all the time on the computers up at the gunshop and as well at my full time job.

It is still called Mozilla Firefox, always has been. That's what's in the title bar and what shows under Help/About Firefox. It installs under a  main /mozilla  or /mozilla firefox folder on your puter depending on version and platform. There is no "Mozilla Suite" or anything.

Mozilla is the blanket name for the entire open source organization and developing effort that produces FireFox and ThunderBird and whatever. FireFox and Thunderbird are both free standing and separate installations and programs.

Well what may have happened is a part of the firefox Monzilla program may have got corrupted and began malfunctioning.  I removed it all. I might try re installing it and see how it works. Can always remove it again if it does not work right. Thanks again folks

Don't matter how fast or slick chrome is-- It is owned by one of the most evil great satans (google) and you can bet your booty it tattles home to google (and the NSA or whoever) regardless whether you opened a "private browsing window". I don't want to do ANYTHING that puts money in Google's pocket. Ad revenue etc.
