Putin will have their Carrier and other ships there in no time.

Well when you say "they" I assume you mean the government. I grew up in a small village on the southern island and I remember seeing choppers and Soldiers show up when we had a lahar, which is basically a major mountainside landslide. That was a major factor of me joining the Army when I came me of age after being adopted and brought to the US. The Filipinos have been an ally to the US and the bond formed from WWII is still strong within the civilians. I hope that the money and donations make it to the people in need instead of the crooked politicians and government officials.

A nuclear powered A/C carrier and support vessels is already on the way to help - I know actions like these is what shows the reason a lot of people wear the uniform with pride.

I spent 8 years there. Went through 2 typhoons back then.

I feel for the people there. One of my coworkers is from there and shared some pictures of his family home. Way, way worse than Katrina.

I wish I could share them here but it won't let me paste them.

10,000 people who had no say in the matter died. Countless homes and businesses were destroyed and this will affect hundreds of thousands of lives for years to come. I'm glad to see you're so concerned about your fellow man, Dust.

Yeah, a friend of mine's parents were visiting while he was over there. He hasn't been able to hear if they're okay or not...

Yeah, they really learned their lesson by reducing an occupational force and then getting hit with what amounts to a 3 hour tornado with 50 foot high swells that sucked entire islands back into the ocean.

Even though they're a 3rd world country, they still offered assistance after Katrina hit us. That says a lot about the culture, and I think they deserve the same courtesy from us.

I'm all about helping people they tossed the us fleet out because they didn't want us there.they didn't need or want us,our dirty ass ships,or our nasty money. The PI is still today a harbor for al Qaeda and other violent groups. The news just doesn't report that factoid as much as they should.
I'm sorry so many innocent are now victims but as my post said let's see who shows up to help. We needed to keep our valued fleet there for many reasons. Some on the list may not know this. Bottom line is we floated PI for many years in many ways and got tossed. Well help them for sure,my condelences to any one with loved ones there...

PS my post has nothing to do with the people, it was their govt that screwed us. I've had my fair share of Balut, and other dishes in olongapo city upper mound and other places. On RnR I know the phillipines ....

Have to disagree, we didn't do anything to keep their country running and they're doing just the same without us there.

Their government is no different than any other except that the people are plugged in hardcore, so many things come to light that wouldn't even get noticed elsewhere.
