I  like Mopeds thread. And occasionally we get a thread going and show some old photo's of Veterans in our families. Lets see some photo's of Veterans (You yourselves), your family members. Not everyone served, but I have yet to meet a family or family member who didnt that didnt have at least one member of their family who served that they were proud of. Met one in Chattanooga 2 days ago saw my retiree hat and was telling me about his WWI grandfather, he never served but was certainly proud of him as he well should be. A lot of people think their Confederate Veterans dont count on Veterans day (Which BTW, I see every day as Veterans and Memorial Day, not just today), I have actually heard people tell me that (Yesterday, talking about Veterans Day) . Nothing could be further from the truth. They were Americans, period. And the American Legion recognized them as did our own Government (Eventually) and their Ancestors are allowed in many cases to March in Veterans day parades carrying the Stars and Bars. Most notable recent issue with the Homestead Florida parade, cancelled and Veterans Organization holding their own, and the Stars and Bars will fly (Although I think the Bonny Blue would be a better carry. Just pointing that out because I had this very discussion yesterday.) Want to have a long drawn out discussion? Tell me my Ancestors were not Veterans, just Rebels and you'll get some quotes from Lincoln, Lee, W.T. Sherman, and James Longstreet. Former Confederates fought for the Union in the West DURING THE CIVIL WAR and I was told yesterday that the Civil War ended some great careers of men that could be great Historical figures rather than considered Rebels trying to destroy the Country "because they were never allowed to serve again". (This from a self proclaimed Civil War Subject Matter Expert) Ummm...NO....you better go take a look at General Joe Wheelers career, and there are a lot of others.

So lets see some photo's of you, your family member Veterans. I love History, and your family History to me is important because we can talk about Generals all day long, its the Privates and the Sergeants and 2nd Lieutenants and Captains with the real stories. And please write at least a synopsis of what they did.

And one last thing. Everyone in the Army is Special Forces, everyone during Korea was at Chosin, everyone during WWII was Infantry, Tanker, or Artillery and so forth. Well someone is feeding, clothing, and fueling those troops. I say that because not everyone CLAIMS those things, but half the time I get into History related or military related conversations Ill hear this "My dad was in the Army in Korea" Ask what did he do and the answer will go something like "Nothing, he was just a cook". WHAT!!? I dont know about anyone else here, but I pretty much worshipped those cooks while in the field when those hot mermites were pulled from Tops jeep. And I wasnt going ANYWHERE without those mechanics and fuel trucks.

I say all that because I want to read some stories and see some pictures, and today gives me a reason to ask. And I want to finish by saying Ill will post if there is any interest but the most important thing.

To you Soldiers, Sailors,  Airmen, Marines and Coast Guard who serve today. Thank You. To those who served side by side with me. Thank You. To those of you who served before me. Thank You.

As bad as it is, as fkd up as our Government is today, as screwed up as the World is today, without you standing watch, it would be a helluva lot worse.

And I, and I speak for my family,  sincerely mean that. Thank You Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, Marines, and Coast Guard members and the Veterans of those services for what you do.

I dont have any pictures of my Grandfather, but he was in the calvary in WW1. I dont know what unit, and the only picture we have is him on his calvary horse candy. We also have his old US calvary holster.

I was a Marine for 5 years. CH-46 engine mechanic then crosstrained into aircrew on 46's. Had a great time, 3 MEUs, 2 years in Japan and countless other countries.

No pics available right now, but I have a lot of vets in my family.
My uncle has a purple heart and bronze star from 'Nam.
Father and Grandfather served in the Army and other various relatives served at some point.
I never enlisted myself, I strongly considered it but instead went to work.

A huge thank you goes out to all who served anf families of those who have served!
