My modular wallet.

I got bored tonight so I tried making a kydex wallet.  It's the same style as my tool organizer.  It's more of a prototype right now and will more then likely end up being made into some sort of cover for a notebook that can things can be mounted to.

That's really, um...well, it's, you know, um....

Maybe make it about 3 times bigger, line with Kevlar, and wear around neck as breastplate? ;)

I once knew a guy who'd do a big line of meth and stay up all night building some of the strangest contraptions.

What've you built lately?

I kinda like it. Maybe make one a little smaller to use for fire starting. Use fire steel as the pin holding the 2 sides together. Maybe one of those credit card magnifying glasses with a hole drilled in the corner so you can pivot it out. Figure out a little container to put some matches in it.

This was the original intent.

Anyone else for some constructive ideas?  What do you want? Leather and kydex with some way to attach different center folds for different tools, cards, money?

Let me hear 'em.

Standard box cutter blade that slide out of the side, like hidden under the money? Button cell single LED?

How many inserts can you add?  The hinge looks like it would be tough to make it have 3 or 4 or more sections (??).

The money storage there is not doing it for me, I can see it falling right out when you open it.   ?  Hard to say from a pic but I would want the money to in inside a pouch like something.   Same for cards and Id.  Where would you put your change?

Needs an ID viewer clear holder so you can flip your DL at whoever without hassle.

A wallet implies certain things.  Place for money, credit cards, ID, change.   Anything else you can do with it without making it huge would be cool, but gotta cover the basics first.   Or, perhaps you do not want a wallet, but a wallet sized survival kit or storage thingy.  In which case, stop trying to put money etc in it, and go wild with the design?

Where would you put your change?

Uh...In your pocket. I have never in my life carried change in a wallet. Wallets are for various cards and cash. Putting change in one just makes it bulky, in my opinion.

As far as constructive criticism...An easily accessible pocket for IDs, a few pockets for the essential cards. Like Jonnin said, a more secure money holder (spring clip or magnetic?) would be good. To me, utilitarian wins out. I don't really need a Swiss Army wallet. The hinge pin would be useful to me if it were a skinny, hollow, watertight capsule.

I'll probably come up with more later. Edited by Broomhead

You carry change in your wallet? I've never even considered it. Anybody else do that?

Yes, I put it in there, but not in bulk.  I tend to spend the metal about as fast as it comes in, thanks to our coffee cup coke fund at work :)

Trust me, I already covered that lol.

The money is also held in by an elastic band, not just sitting in there.

I keep an extra vehicle key in mine. Has been a life saver.

Pop rivets would be better than those screws. You could also pop rivet in a piece of leather or something as a hinge instead of the deal you got there.
