Hi everyone!

I'm Mike from Franklin and I just turned 21 on the 3rd of this month. I have already purchased myself my own bday gift, a Smith & Wesson SW40VE. It is a very easy hangdun for me to operate (minus the tough trigger pull) and I plan on keeping it for a while. I do want to get my carry permit as well. I do not intend to keep it on my body very much though. The only time I would have my gun with me is on the way to a range and such. Is it manditory or a good idea to have a permit even when only going to ranges? If it is not mandatory, is it a good idea to have a permit anyways?

Thanks!

-Mike

Welcome to TGO. I sure you could transport to range and back with ammo and weapon separated although I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Best Western last night if that counts.--MP

thanks for your replies everyone! I would like to take the class anyways so why not get it? Once I save up some spare cash I will take the class and apply for one.

Welcome aboard Mike. I'm a new member/novice gun owner myself. This site is an amazing resource for us newbies, so I'm glad we've both found it. Enjoy your time and welcome to TGO!

Welcome :bowrofl:

As others have said, if the gun is unloaded and the ammo seperate from it, no need to have a HCP to go to the range, but I would suggest getting anyway.

Welcome aboard..

No, you don't need a permit to transport an UNLOADED weapon.

Keep ammo in trunk, gun in passenger compartment, preferably in a case.

Or vice versa probably even better.
