Does anyone make an inexpensive AR complete upper?

Trying to locate an upper for the nephew. Already has 2 complete lowers. Problem I am having is cost vs value. Already checked all the usual suspects, gunbroker, gunsamerica, buds, etc. The prices being asked for complete with BCG no name brands (You google them and barely get any hits and most are bad) with round foregrips and cheap barrels are in the $500 range, considering he can simply add 100 bucks and have a brand new DPMS oracle or add 150 and have a brand new Windham Carbon, I dont see paying 500 bucks for a cheap upper.

 

I have also checked all the local shops and no one has or carries complete uppers or uppers minus BCG. Saw one but it was in 300 AAC, he's looking for 5.56/.223.

 

So, where can I get a halfway decent upper, BCG or no BCG since he already has one for under $400? If a complete upper cost $500 for basically crap, might as well just go buy a new AR from Walmart. This isnt a combat/hunting/SD/HD and whatever gun, this will be punch a bunch of holes in paper with cheap ammo gun. But he is 18 and this is his first rifle, so the ability to mount a bunch of tacticool crap (Then take it off when he realizes the only thing it does is add a bunch of weight) would be a plus.

 

Any suggestions?

I get a specials email from them every couple weeks and I'm almost certain I saw a complete upper for $375 in one of them but here's their regular prices. PSA usually has some pretty good deals on things like this as well.

Yep, check them daily, they have blems every couple of weeks that are hard to beat anywhere for decent stuff.

PSA. Either keep checking in and get a complete upper minus BCG and charging handle, or grab a blem upper and start barrel shopping (and handguard, and gas block, and sights etc.).

I'd recommend PSA as well.  They make a quaility product using FN barrels and always have sales that simply cannot be beat.

 

Different sales every day so you just have to keep checking.

If it were me and I had $500 or under to spend on an upper I think the spikes would be my choice ...

They also have a lifetime warranty on products and have great customer service

Yes I have a spikes factory AR-15 but I like the way the PSA uppers look better. I buy the spikes stripped lowers then color fill them and they look great on a psa upper.

If you can find one, just buy an M&P Sport, keep the upper, and sell the lower.  Using "Old World" pricing, that would mean you'll be out about $350 on one of the best entry level paper punching uppers available.

I got a PSA upper MOE Premium kit, 10 days from time ordered till I had it in my hands. Build quality, looks fine, the receiver has a greyish tint on the inside (first true new upper). BCM would be my only other choice.. and that's what one of my lowers will be getting..

 

I did have to check it, the barrel is a heavier 1/7 twist  M4 profile barrel versus my other AR, DSC 1/9 twist M4 profile.. It just feels weird to have a all black AR now..

Note they are not quite the killer deal they used to be since they changed the barrel to standard 6R 1:9.
