My first IDPA style run (VIDEO)

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine helped me set up a course on Sunday since we both had intended on going to the ORSA toys for tots match and had to miss it for family obligations...

My friend had been to some competitions a long time ago I don't remember if he said he was into IDPA or USPSA but the targets said IDPA on them so that's what I'm calling it.

I know, I'm very slow, but I very much enjoyed it. I am hoping I can start going to some competitions soon.

Feel free to critisize my technique if you see anything.

If the embed thing does't work here is a link: http://youtu.be/mhdbNwhPgpo

Fun isn't it. Watch your draw, at 0:06 it looks like you just about swept your leg/foot.

Hadn't noticed that, thanks for pointing it out, it does seem that way, maybe I need to turn more or not spread out so much?

It was a lot of fun, we were using a little timer app on the phone so we could time ourselves, shot for a couple hours and each maybe 100 rounds and had 10 times more fun that when we just take turns shooting 250 rounds at the side of the hill. Awesome.

Thanks for your comments.

We've got several TGOers that shoot IDPA and USPSA at Oak Ridge that would be more than happ to shoot with you and help you out with the rules etc.

Thanks, I have been reading up on the rules and could use clarification on some things, it would also be great to practice with someone before the match.

The only thing I can't make out from reading and watching the videos is what the flow or protocol is like at these matches, where to sign up, where to go first, how I know when it's my turn or when it's gonna be my turn... that's really whats scary to me so I'd be really nice to meet up with someone who s used to going and just follow them around the first time.

You just show up pay your entry and they give you a score sheet. they will say form x amount of lines with x amount of people. these are called squads. get in a sqaud and they will tell you what designated bay too go to. then you hand in your score sheet too the scorekeeper. they will call out the first 3 shooters using terms like. X is our shooter Y is on deck Z is in the hole.

They also have a new shooters meeting before everymatch that a new shooter must attend. they will go over some of the rules, range commands, and safety issues. Really the only thing you should worry about is being safe and having fun. when you show up make sure your gun is unloaded and there is not a mag in the firearm. that gun also has too remain in its holster until you are getting ready to shoot and are told you can "load and make ready"

Edit: He beat me to it.

To add to what dlmeadows said, they will have a new shooters meeting before the match begins. Just let them know when you sign up that you are a new shooter and they will take good care of you. Edited by BrasilNuts
