Glock KCI and Khan Magazines

Recommended Posts

Over the past few years I have been using KCI and Khan magazines for my Glock 19 and Glock 17 more and more…they are all I now use for range work and matches.

I know a few of you guys that I've shot with before do as well...

I found that on a few of them I had to use some fine grit sandpaper to smooth the plastic “burs” left over from the manufacturing process. One or two of them required a shot of PermaSilk spray into the mags body tubes to enhance smoothness for the follower.

All in all I am very pleased with them and at this point I can’t see any difference in reliability between them and my OEM Glock mags. That doesn’t mean that I would carry the KCI or Khan mags as a part of my EDC. I’ll stick with factory (OEM) Glock mags for that…just because I don’t plan to tempt fate.

Btw…I picked up my KCI and Khan G 19 and G 17 mags for $10.0$12.00 each.

IIRC my Khan 33 rounders were $15.00-$17.00.

One “issue” I have had with Khan mags were with the 33 round “Happy Sticks”. The springs just seemed to not have enough strength for reliable feeding.

I pick up a Wolff 5% Extra Power spring, swapped them out, and problem sloved.

Granted, there isn’t much of a price difference Post-Newtown on the KCI/Khan 33 rounders vs Glock OEM 33 rounders...enough of a savings to make a difference for some though.

But if you’ve had feeding issues with your Korean Happy Sticks, Wolff E.P. Springs might help out.

Any other Korean after-market Glock mag users?

I have a couple kci mags for my 23. I replaced the springs but still don't have them fully functional. If I load them with 10 rounds they do better. I'll stick with the factory ones. I bought several extras at $10 each a few years back.

I can appreciate what you're saying UncleJak. :pleased:

I have a bunch of OEM Glock mags I purchased when the "Sunset" happened on the Clinton ban. Being a shooter throughout that ban era make me want to "hoard" my OEM mags LOL.

I don't personally know anyone using .40 cal Korean mags. Has anyone else had the same .40 cal Korean mag issues as UncleJak?

Personally, I'll stick to the factory glock mags.

I have several KCI that I've acquired in trades and actually bought one or two when dirt cheap, but for anything other than range use, I will not use them.

For carry purposes, I'll not trust my life to a replacement mag that cost me 10-15 less than a proven factory product.

I agree 100% on the carrying of the KCI and Khan mags hipower.

That's why I said "That doesn’t mean that I would carry the KCI or Khan mags as a part of my EDC. I’ll stick with factory (OEM) Glock mags for that…just because I don’t plan to tempt fate."

I bought several of the KCI Glock 22 .40 mags in 15 rd and also happy sticks from CDNN when they were just so cheap I could not pass them up. Ok for range use, no problems with the 15 rd, the happy sticks probably need some working with.

I bought them mainly to use in my kelec sub2000 that takes Glock mags. No issues in my Glock 22 either. A few years ago CDNN had them for $5 and I just could not resist buying them. When the shipment came in my daughter asked "what's up with this big box of granola bars on the coffee table?". They come in small plastic packages that look like granola bar wrappers with military looking writing on them. i also got some used Glock factory mags in that same shipment from CDNN for around $10. Keep in mind this has been 4 or 5 years ago, probably no deals like that now.

As for edc, I will stick with factory mags. I don't actually carry the Glock much, but it stays at the house with the sub2k ready to go. I tend to carry my HK USP40 more often.

I need to get the sub2k out and try them out.

Guys, I'm not saying that the mags are faulty or dangerous. Just that for carry and defensive use, I stick to the factory mags. I know any mag can be defective, or have an issue with age/use; but traditionally it has seemed to be safer with the orginals.

Heck, I have aftermarket mags for several of my gun. Taurus and Sigs especially, not to mention Beretta and CZ.

I bought 5 KCI 15 round 19 mags in 2010 for $6 each. They have been my sole IDPA/USPSA/training magazines for 3 years. I haven't had one magazine related failure in the thousands and thousands of rounds that have been put through them. Last year I bought 1000 rounds of steel cased Tula and I noticed that when I was unloading my magazines with my thumb after a match that they were sticking down in the magazine body and not coming up hard against the lips of the magazine. Though it never caused any problems while shooting I, like Prag, changed the KCI springs out for Wolff extra power springs. They have been great magazines, I wish I had bought 20 of them at $6.

Edit: If it was Spiffys wet dream zombie apocalypse, I wouldn't hesitate to load these up and mix them in with my factory magazines. Edited by BrasilNuts
