Speaking of kilt's, a friend of my wife's husband wears a kilt quite often.   She was in the hospital and her husband and several family members were in her hospital room.   The Dr. came in and she introduced everyone to the Dr.   She named everyone in the room and then said, "the guy in the dress is my husband".   I don't think she is a fan of his kilt wearing.

5.11 just recently got into that style of kilt, there is another company called Utilikilts that been making them for about 10 years. There's another company called Sport Kilt that makes a more traditional looking kilt, but it was designed with the athlete in mind. A lot of the Scotish Highland Game athletes use them.

I'm thinking about getting a Sport Kilt the first of the year to use for IDPA/USPSA.

I've seen a number of those kilts at the various Scottish Highland Festivals  'round these parts.  I don't think I could pull it off either.
