My point is, why own something that big. That one comes in at 50+ pounds, the other 2 are 110 pounds.

Ya gona tote it in the woods?

Over 250 foot pounds of kick, can you even hit with it?

If I am gona spend that kind of money,

1st, I want to be able to shoot it a lot, that thing is gona hurt a LOT.

2nd, the cost of just 1 round is over 40 dollars, 50 BMG is less than 10 dollars.

3rd, just how good is it at 1000 yards?

So why?

I know this is semantics, but why is this considered the largest caliber rifle in the world.  Traditionally a rifle is defined as a shoulder fired firearm with a rifled barrel.  If that definition is used the M70 and the Mikor MGL could both very well be considered to be rifles, though they fire explosive projectiles. They both have 40mm bores so whouldn't they be considered a larger caliber rifle than this.

Also back in the day didn't they make 2 & 4 bore rifles for big game hunting in Africa

I think they said largest centerfire rifle in the world.  I'm guessing other recoilless rifles, grenade launchers like the Mikor and etc are maybe outside of that scope?

And as to "why?"  Why not?  Because he can I'm guessing.  Loads of people own different types of firearms that are impractical to say the least.  Also cost is subjective.  $40 a round may mean nothing to the owner; who knows what his disposable income is. I'm sure if he has the coin to drop on that prototype and the ammo he probably has a couple of barret's or accuracy internationals sitting in the safe too that are a bit more practical.

You beat me to it.  My first thought was, "Good Lord, why?" and almost immediately I thought, "Because they can, that's why."  Normally I would say that just because you can, doesn't mean you should, but if they have the money, then go for it I say.
