.40 easier to shoot groups?

So I had the chance to shoot a glock gen 4 law enforcement model in .40 cal at the range the other day. It seemed to group better for me than most of the other 9mm pistols that I have including a gen 4 19. I started to wonder if there's anything to this or perhaps I was just "paying attention" to a gun that was new to me.

Usually I hear the opposite. People think the 40 is to "snappy" and get worse groups.

I switched to .40 several years ago, but still get better grouping with 9mm.

I dunno about that. There are so many variables between the types of guns, individual shooters, etc. I don't know that a blanket statement like "9 shoots better than 40" can be made with any confidence. What about an LC9 vs someone shooting a fullsize 40 like a Beretta 96?

I have both calibers in a few platforms and can make pretty little cloverleaf groups fairly regularly with either in the fullsize guns. The compacts make me concentrate and focus a little more for the same results. I do think that a gun with less perceived recoil will be easier to acclimate to, especially for newer shooters; BUT I do NOT think it means one round is necessarily more accurate, in and of itself, than the other.

Mine is just a 22 with tritiums...nothing special or different.

It was a 22 in .40 that had a law enforcement serial number. Belongs to a buddy of mine who worked for the department serving federal warrants Not really sure if they had done anything special to it but it shot just like any other Tupperware piece.

Even a cheap gun with cheap ammo will make one jagged hole at a few yards (say, under 20) so long as the gun or ammo are not so bad as to be defective.  Talking a standard functional gun and a step or 2 up from the rock bottom junk ammo.   At "self defense" distances, its ALL the shooter, in other words.  There are exceptions... super short barrels for example can't keep up, but talking generalisms here.

 

So, it sounds like the 40 fit YOU well and YOU shot well with that gun using that ammo.  I have 9mms that will put all the shots in one hole for me and others that are just awful -- and its the little things that make the difference, grip feel, recoil, trigger, sights, etc.  And example is my beretta 92 -- its grip is uncomfortable, the sights are a mess (its 2 dot style, an antique now I guess) and the trigger is crap.  I am sure it is capable of great results, but I cant produce them with it.

OK. Question here. Does the color of the sticker on a Glock box mean something? I've seen them red, light blue, dark blue and white. just wondering if the color has some meaning.

No, the gun will be the same unless it is a tactical model. On some models the color of the label only species the amount of mags or their capacity. Blues have always had 3*, White will have 10rd mags or less, and red will be standard capacity.

I shoot way worse when I pick up a 40..

I shoot 9 and 45 way better ,good SD round but crappy target round for me

There was a time that I thought I shot a 40 better than 9, specifically Glocks. I think when it comes down to it they are the same. I can't even feel the extra recoil (snap)40's are known to have.

.40 S&W is a tricky round but there may be a legitimate reason why your groups were better than with 9mm. When I shoot my revolvers, I generally group better with .357 and .38 Special +P than.38 Special in the same weapon even though the recoil is less. I attribute this to bearing down on my grip to compensate for what I believe the recoil will be. I think my follow up shots benefit because of this. I realize this is sloppy marksmanship and something I need to train through. Even though, this may explain what happened.
