legal obligation to unload

Recommended Posts

I agree with the others, I don't give the HCP with DL. If all they get is the DL, then when they run it and find that I have a HCP that is the same as if I had shown it to them in the first place. But at the same time the chances of them disarming or asking about it after going to their car to do what they do are not very good because 1. they are handing you a ticket or warning when they do come back to you or 2. they know from running the DL that you have a HCP, which makes it much less likely that you are a criminal. I've been stopped three times over the last couple of years for lights going out and twice I didn't show my HCP with DL and nothing happened. The one time I did show it together, just to see what would happen, I could tell the officer was very nervous and when he came back had a second officer with him on the other side of my car. So in my opinion its much better not to inform unless they ask. What momma doesn't know wont hurt her.  JMO

Some of y'all might want to get the book You & The Police by Boston T Party.  There are other, similar books - this is my favorite.

I never want confrontation w/ an LEO, but as a rule, my family knows to volunteer zero information when confronted.  If they don't ask precise questions they do not get precise answers.  If they ask for license & registration that's all they'll get.  While I know there are fantastic LEOs out there, there are also a handful of overzealous clowns with an inferiority complex that get a rise out of exerting their authority.

Bottom Line - when I'm obeying the law & I'm confronted by an LEO, they are not my friend ... certainly not my enemy, but not my friend.

Let's see if I have this straight:

Cop pulls her over, she tells him she has a loaded weapon in the car (clue #1 for Mr. LEO: she's an honest, law-abiding citizen, so there's nothing to fear here)

He isn't comfortable with someone other than him having a loaded firearm, so he instructs her to unload it. (clue #2 for Mr. LEO: You're afraid she might draw on you, so you want her to FILL HER HAND WITH HER LOADED FIREARM. Now she has tactical advantage as your weapon is still in your holster. Good thing for you she is an honest, law-abiding citizen.)

Conclusion: Clueless LEO.
