Lets see those pumpkins

I should preface this by saying this is the first pumpkin I've ever carved (that I remember) and it blows my mind the detail some people are able to do with them. This is all me and my pocketknife could come up with.

Looks darn good for a first timer and especially with a pocket knife.

Thanks bud. I started with this flimsy saw type thing my wife got in a "pumpkin carving kit" and I broke it, so I went to the trusty knife. Buddy of mine said he uses a 1/4" drill bit in his cordless drill to do his...wish I had thought of that

These almost gave me carpal tunnel three years ago.  Now I just do the standard pumpkin smiley face. Took'em in the garage to take the pictures on a tripod using night shot setting.

We're pretty plain at my house. I'll admit my art is normally in oils and my canvas is typically a garage floor or my good clothes. Although not up to some of ya'lls standards, my kids (2 & 1) think they're just great and daddy done real real good. Also I'm kinda nostalgic and I like em the way we done em when I was a kid (my pappy was more of an oil painter too, lol)

I will say a Milwaukee cordless jigsaw and drill with a hole saw does a good job. Nostalgic maybe, but not against power tools.

The saws work, you just can't force them. Let the saw do the work. Like I told my daughter, its all about moving the saw in and out and less about the other directions.

Still working on mine. I will try to get pictures up tomorrow. My son is now a Star Wars fiend so I have done Obi Wan and am working on Yoda.

I used to do really elaborate pumpkins, the more gruesome the better.  But when I had kids of my own, I decided some of my creations weren't really appropriate for little kids, so we go with the standard stuff now...
