Engine Machinist recommendation?

looking for someone to do machine work on a ford v8. not needing anything immediate and not needing anything super crazy for a pro race but would like good, affordable work that isn't one of the typical nightmare "screw a soldier" type stories you hear about here in Clarksville. wouldn't mind taking it to Ashland city or Nashville if needed but would prefer to keep it local.

looking for a .30 over bore on a 302. prep and install cam bearings and freeze plugs. I plan on doing the rest of the rotating assembly myself as far as installing parts.

thanks.

I have had great luck with Shacklett machine in Nashville. They are great people. Dad is Bo son is John. They just did a mild 351M build for us. The guy in Ashland city Tempest mentioned, if the same guy, is a friend of theirs that is amazing, but I hear he's on about a year and a half waiting list. Dolomite has a good point, I've never heard about the xxx block but would check it out.

Some say that the XXX blocks are roller blocks but that is not the case. They can be but not all are. They all have the mounting pads for the spider but depending on the engine you might have to drill and tap the pads. I have found them that were not drilled and some that were.

Here are a few pictures, not mine though:

And here is another that is not tapped:

You can also see how the block in the last picture is more "bright". They almost look like brushed nickle once you remove the paint.

Years back I used jim simpkins in springfield. The guy can do anything. His prices were always reasonable and the work was great. He's on hwy 257 right before hwy 431. 615-384-8185. I live in pleasant view and he's only about 10 mins off I-24.
