Terrible story here, folks. Best be sitting down when reading it.

Terrible, yes.  I dunno though, if a teenager pointed that thing at me, I might have fired too.  Teenagers are very capable of shooting people....

It stinks, but whether you have a banana or a full functional uzi, when the fuzz show up you drop it and raise your hands.   Anything else is asking to be shot.

This is a very sad situation that should have never happened. Bad judgement call on LE. It's just a matter of time before this happens to someone carrying a real rifle trying to send a message about 2A rights. Sad...very sad.

I can only imagine how bad the officers feel.

Please keep in mind that this is my conjecture and not founded in bigotry but It said the father said that in "Spanish", when I was in grade school we had two kids that transferred in that couldn't speak a lick of english, think it could be possible the boy couldn't speak English?

*shrug* do you think it could be possible that the officers "shot first, ordered him to drop his toy gun" after?

Seems to me that there is a whole lot of hysteria/fear of armed civies these days, thanks to the 24/7/365 media coverage of school shootings the notion has beeen repeatedly hammered into the American-psychy that every single MWAG is probably a potential mass school childrenz killer & not a law-abiding firearm owner or even a kid with a just replica/toy gun.

So I'd say the likelyhood of an officer immediately engaging a little-kid holding an evil "AK" without saying anything prior at all, has risen greatly over the last 10 years out of plain & simple fear for their own lives.

That's just a guess though, why else would kids be getting suspended from school for chewing a pop-tart pastery? That is except out of an irrational fear of armed children?

A 12 year old was the Sparks, Nevada school shooter. Two kids shot and a Teacher killed.

After the first kid was shot the teacher was killed when he tried to stop the shooter. I wondered what would have happened if the teacher would have been armed and shot the shooter when he pulled the weapon. Well of course we know what would have happened; the headlines would have been “Teacher murders 12 year old student”.

I’m making no judgments about what these cops did; don’t have enough info other than stories saying the kid was raising the AK as he turned towards them. As I said before; reaction time….tick…tick…tick.

But saying he was too young to be a danger, or that any of us, cop or HCP holder should have been able to tell a replica from the real thing as someone is presenting a weapon is ridiculous.

Terrible situation.

According to news I heard about this, the family speaks Esponolies to each other at home. It's very possible the kid doesn't understand English very well. Articles like this is the second reason I do not OPEN CARRY. What may be a normal movement or reaction on my part, may not be on someone elses and may cause me to get shot.  I guess it's something we all need to think about.

California has been trying to ban toy guns for some time. I didnt think they would ever be able to do it. Have been reading articles for years on it.

This may be the catalyst.

From 2004 ""I can tell you that law enforcement officers are scared to death of actually having to take another person's life," said Assemblyman Todd Spitzer (R-Orange), who brought the replica guns onto the floor with permission from legislative leaders."

California Senate Bill 798 re proposed this past April, voted on in May or June I believe, has one last hurdle to pass. (This will probably be that hurdle) NRA was fighting it again as I recall and I dont know the current status. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/13-14/bill/sen/sb_0751-0800/sb_798_bill_20130424_status.html

California, no toy guns, no guns that look anything like guns, BB Guns and Airsoft will be required to be painted Pink and Yellow (As I recall).

California is the reason why all toy guns sold today are supposed to have a red tip. California will be the reason eventually all toy guns you can get for your kids will be pink and yellow.

This has been fought for by California Politicians for 25 years now.

toy guns look like real guns these days. hard to tell them from the real thing.   you need to speak and read english when you live here.  if you open carry, no matter if it is a toy gun or not.  when the police tells you to drop the weapon, drop it.  don't back talk, don't point the weapon at them.
