PIC of 1600 Garands

Recommended Posts

Can anyone order from CMP or are there club restrictions? Looks like their auctions are open to everyone (collecting donations to bid on an M1 carbine).

How do I become a member of the CMP?

At this time there is no direct membership in the CMP. Membership is through one of our affiliated clubs or organizations. There are currently over 1800 affiliated organizations. All of our shooting events are accessible to anyone regardless of their affiliation or club membership, but to purchase anything from the CMP, an individual must show proof of belonging to an affiliated club or organization.

How do I find out about affiliated clubs in my area?

Visit http://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=clubSearch for a list of our affiliated clubs by state. If you are unable to find a club in your immediate area, please try your state association or the Garand Collectors Association (GCA) http://www.thegca.org, a special affiliate with the CMP.

I need to get one for each of my boys.  One is 2 years old and the other is 4 months.  I have one for myself that I got in a trade from a fellow TGO member.  I have an AR for each of them already, so now I need to focus on a couple of the old M1s before they are gone.  I fully believe the OP that there are 2-3 years' worth of rifles on hand, but that time will pass very quickly.

A club that has a CMP affiliation is often seen as a roadblock to many, but it can be as easy as joining the Garand Collectors Association which is a CMP club.

Here is the direct link that tells you what is needed to order from the CMP.

It might seem like a complex way to get a rifle, but heck its a M1 Garand FEDEX direct to you.

PM me if you need any help in getting your M1.

That is correct.

From the CMP link I provided above......

Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity: You must provide proof of participation in a marksmanship related activity or otherwise show familiarity with the safe handling of firearms and range procedures. Your marksmanship related activity does not have to be with highpower rifles; it can be with smallbore rifles, pistols, air guns or shotguns. Proof of marksmanship participation can be provided by documenting any of the following:

  • Current or past military service.
  • Current or past law enforcement service
  • Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin).
  • Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor).
  • Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status. - Concealed Carry License.
  • Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training. - FFL or C&R license.
  • Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training.
  • Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/competitions/forms/marksmanship.pdf

If the first seven examples of activity doesn't apply to you, I can sign the certification form that affirms firearm activity.  Any of you who have shot IDPA, 3Gun, Service Rifle, or F Class matches with me can print out the form for my signature.  I also sign this same form for anybody who I have ever provided firearm instruction.

I filled out the application, joined the GCA (you get a pretty good magazine about garands 4 times a year) and then had to show proof of my HCP. I also sent them my C&R papers as well just in case. I then ordered a garand over three months ago and am still waiting on it. Maybe I'll get it by Christmas. :pleased: Oh well, as long as I get it.
