Taking a ride down to CMP. Even if I dont buy anything I want to talk to Mike or Leon or the girls in the back and see what the real deal is. Although if they have any 82G's left I will probably come home with one.

As of right now, its just me. I have 3 seats open and 4 if someone doesnt mind riding in the middle. My trucks a crewmax so there is tons of room in the back, no one will be scrunched up.  Anyone wants to go, your welcome to ride along. Not asking for gas money or anything like that, either way Im headed down either tomorrow or Friday. If you havent been there before its about a 2 1/2 - 3 hour ride from me. Less from the Chattanooga area. Ill stop and pick anyone up who lives between Dayton and Chattanooga on down, and about anywhere in the Chattanooga area or meet up in a parking lot somewhere.

Another thing is if you think you cant buy from CMP, in most cases thats not right. Also, the old story of doing the paperwork before you go is baloney. You can do it right there and it takes about 10 minutes if that. Takes less time than buying a gun at Walmart or Academy. You go in the back as soon as you walk in, give your qualifying ID and they hand you the paperwork and a pen and you sti at one of the tables and fill it out, turn it in and go look. Take all the time you want. The "must have qualified in one long range rifle match and be a member of a CMP affiliated R&P Club or range" is long gone, although that still qualifies. For those that dont know, here are some of the things that qualify you.

You need ID of course, and proof of citizenship with some form of Government ID. I use both my DL and military retirement ID.

  • Current or past military service.
  • Current or past law enforcement service
  • Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin).
  • Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor).
  • Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status. - Concealed Carry License.
  • Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training. - FFL or C&R license.
  • Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training.
  • Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity.

Other affiliates

Proof of membership in a Veterans organization. VFW, American Legion, etc. (Not required to show firearms training activity)

Veterans, Active Duty, Retirees, Reserves and National Guard. Veterans need their DD214 showing an Honorable Discharge (Not required to show firearms training activity)

Go here, drop down state and put in Tennessee, click search at the bottom. There are 146 affiliates right here in Tennessee, alone. And there are more.

Ill be rolling out of here about 6ish, in Chattanooga area around 7(ish) and plan on being at CMP when they open. I have yet to go there where it didnt turn into an all day thing. I would also like to stop at Shooters Headquarters, they got some pre 64 Model 94's and a couple of Rolling Block 45-70's in this week I would like to look at. Thats also in Anniston.

Keep in mind for those that have never been there or dont know details, its not just Garands. They are about (Or may be completely) but have Kimber Model 82G's for $400. (The government paid about $4000 for each of those and they were never used, I have bought 4 of them from CMP. the Army and Marines didnt want them), other rifles, barrels, receivers, bayonets, slings, ammo, manuals, competition air rifles, (And some cheap air rifles), other .22's, barrel/reciever combos for several other guns, M1D Sniper Rifles, cleaning kits, and other things.

If your a member of an affiliated shooting organization your organization can even get Match AR's.

Anyway, all are welcome to ride along until I fill up.
