Bamboo knife handles

Has anyone tried to make handles from woven bamboo? I'm told it is super strong and will never unfray.
I'm gonna give it a try to see what happens.

Good luck - looking forward to seeing your results.  The right kind/pattern of that stuff would probably look really good on a 'tanto' or other, Asian style blade.

Bamboo works pretty decently. Not sure about woven bamboo, though. IIRC, on regular bamboo you need a hard finish added to keep it from fraying, but don't quote me on that.

I'd almost think you would need some kind of clear epoxy type finish on regular bamboo, even then with it being so brittle I'd have doubts as to how hard it can be used. Unless it were laminated, I guess them it would be plenty strong. Of course I'm sure there's plenty of bamboo handled knives out there to prove me wrong on all accounts though.

Preliminary results are in: woven bamboo is super tough! The guy I got it from told me it was but until I started cutting it I had no idea. My jigsaw struggled to cut through it. I have one handle started and should be able to post more tomorrow.

Well...this stuff is hard! Ate thru my sandbelt like butter. I'm going to keep trying. Heres where I'm at now
