I see CMP going away before this Administration is through. Got my monthly email and CMP is going to 3 days a week, Thursday-Saturday due to the low amount of rifles coming in. Since Obama blocked military imports with the swipe of a pen, I dont see any more coming in other than what they already have available.

Also noticing standard 91/30's running around 150-180, last September I could get all I wanted for 100 bucks, with accessories. Then 139 in March.

I foresee 03 prices going up as well.

That cheap hobby (C&R guns) is about to become not so cheap.

JMHO

Might have to run down to CMP this week just to see whats available.

What all does that EO effect?

Does it effect AK47's?

I never got time to read and figure out what all weapons that it blocks from importation.

There was a Bill, Lumis, HR 2247 that would have overridden the State departments decision to allow those Korean Lend Lease Garands and M1 Carbines in. Obama apparently realized he could override the State Department with an EO (Since they are his appointees) and just went ahead and did it all at once, banning the importation of all surplus military rifles. The EO was supposed to be specific to those Korean owned rifles, but it bans "ALL" military grade surplus firearms.

Here, right on the White House website. He blocked the gangbangers from getting hold of their Garands. Guaranteed to stop gun violence in Chicago and Los Angelas. I can bet we will defenitely see violence reduced, with gangbangers not being about to get hold of any of those Arisaka Assault Weapon Machine Guns.

BTW, I have a couple of 91/30's for sale. Counterbored, makes them extra special. $4000 each.

As was thinking the EO only effected military firearms that originated in the US? (ie we originally sold the weapons to country x who now want state dept. permission to sell them to importers.)

Looking at all this nonsense about making America safer by banning and blocking importation of this and that spewed out to the public defies common sense and logic. Until you look at the big picture and goal of a government who wants total control of the population.

As you're all aware, the Second Amendment was placed second for a reason.

Based on the ever increasing involvement of the federal government in our everyday lives, penalizing productive workers and redistributing their hard work and wealth to the generational lazy's and tens of billions of foreign aid to countries hostile toward U.S., entering un-Constitutional treaties and passing un-Constitutional law, etc. etc. At what point would it be considered a tyrannical and oppressive government I ask with puzzlement written all over the scowl on my face?

"It’s unclear how this new policy will apply to weapons like AK variants (for example), and whether it will apply to ammunition as well. Time will tell.

When the United States provides military firearms to its allies, either as direct commercial sales or through the foreign military sales or military assistance programs, those firearms may not be imported back into the United States without U.S. government approval.  Since 2005, the U.S. Government has authorized requests to reimport more than 250,000 of these firearms.

Today, the Administration is announcing a new policy of denying requests to bring military-grade firearms back into the United States to private entities, with only a few exceptions such as for museums.  This new policy will help keep military-grade firearms off our streets."

I think anyone that doesnt see the writing on the wall is not being honest. When Obama speaks of this "ban" he alludes to all military surplus rifles. Anyone that thinks he will ban (Or enforce the already in place ban)  on the importation of Garands and M1 Carbine but not figure out a way to stop AK's, Mosins and anything else "military" from coming into the US needs to think real hard about that. As for surplus ammo, who knows? And for Dennis's point, which is absolutely correct:

"

This latest development comes more than 16 months after Fox News first reported that Obama had banned the importation of the vintage, collectible rifles. At the time, a State Department spokesman told reporters the administration's decision was based on concerns that the guns could "potentially be exploited by individuals seeking firearms for illicit purposes."

When the ban was first announced, Dennis Henigan of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said "guns that can take high-capacity magazines are a threat to public safety," said "Even though they are old, these guns could deliver a great amount of firepower. So I think the Obama administration's concerns are well-taken."

Ironically, the "firepower," as Henigan calls it, of the M1 Garand, which is chambered in .30-06 Springfield, is far stronger than that of the reduced-power .30 caliber cartridge used in the banned M1 Carbine. But in the ignorant world of the Brady Campaign, a multiple-round magazine filled with what a postwar U.S. Army evaluation concluded was an ineffective cartridge is to be feared more than a cartridge that was developed for when shots of 1000 yards were expected, and which was heavily used by military snipers."

One thing the author from the above paragraph failed to mention. the Garand DOES NOT TAKE high capacity magazines. It doesnt even use a magazine, it uses clips which as I understand Bradys logic, holds 2 rounds LESS than what they consider HIGH capacity and 5 rounds LESS on a repro en bloc when used for hunting. Of course if your Cuomo or Bloomberg it holds exactly ONE more round than what they consider SAFE.

These people are complete idiots.

None of this has anything to do with the CMP.  They do not import rifles.  Period.  They would never have seen a single one of those Korean Garands.

If this EO bans the US Army from turning over .30 caliber rifles (M1, M1 Carbine, M1903 and M1917) to the CMP then it is direct contradiction to US law.

The sole source of these riles for the CMP is the Army.

BTW, does anyone really know what exactly the EO says and how it will be interpreted/enforced?

So one COULD say that the Army COULD ask for its toys back then give them to the CMP as the US Army is probably not affected by EO as written ?

So why bother writing this? other than to make it a .gov the only game in town and stuff it to independent business in the business of reimportation (SARCO, etc.) can't think of a reason...

I'll keep my M-1 greased and ready thanks  reminds me I need some more enblocs to finish filling my .50 can and belt

Just a guess here but haven't been following developments? None of those Garands that are outside the US are coming back in. It's already hurting CMP but indirectly, The lend lease guns weren't going to CMP anyway, But after the recent scare they were backed up 12000 orders at one point, Three months ago they were backed up 8 to 12 months in delivery orders. In this months monthly newsletter they announced they are cutting back to a 3 day per week schedule due to the limited number of rifles they now have and are coming in. They are no longer going to open on Wednesdays. Those Garands that were going to come in, junk. When the Koreans were looking for a buyer distributor, two came and looked at the rifles. I can't recall details exactly but IIRC one of them was someone from AIM, both said the same thing. Maybe one out of every 50. were serviceable the rest were rusted junk. The Koreans wanted 200 per gun and the distributors said they couldn't make 200 off of 50. I got my information from calling and emailing the Korean consulate in Atlanta. Said they would let everyone know when they found a distributor. Watching a lot of collectors complaining that those guns should go back to CMP. They wouldn't pay more than 250 for a Garand with import marks. No worry about that now, because they wont be coming in. Been to CMP at least 10 times in the last 24 months. They had racks full of Garands until this year. Last two times I went nothing but specials and M1Ds. Plus the usual 30-40 Krag barrels and recivers, usual air rifles and a few 82g's. M1 Carbines and 03s. Forget it. They get them occasionally but if your not following the CMP forum, your not getting one.

They cant. These rifles are not lend lease. The Koreans paid for them. In 1969 the South Koreans paid for every single rifle they had and that were coming in. Thats directly from the Korean consulate to me.

Regarding the CMP, I recently went to their store in Port Clinton. They had a good supply of very good grade M1s. All carried a very heavy $1,000 price. My son and I thought we could get a fairly decent grade for around $400 - $500.  We were prepared to pay that much and had all our paperwork and cash ready but alas the $1000 price resulted in us coming home empty handed. :yuck:
