Another vote for Spring Hill. I'm on the Willamson county side (barely). Real estate in here is reasonable. Get north of Thompson Station and the home prices start climbing in a hurry and square footage goes down.

I65 between 96 and 840 quickly turns into a parking lot both directions. Cannot wait, maybe sometime next summer they will finish 4 lanes to 840. I wish they hadn't stopped short of Goose Creek and just went the whole way earlier.

I wouldn't count on it. I think the completion date is 2016. They have to replace the whole overpass at Peytonsville Rd as well.

I wish they'd have even just continued to Goose Creek, even if only the right lane. It's only just a touch over a mile and then you can jump off on to the Goose Creek bypass to 840. I figure with a bit of paint, they could just have done without an emergency lane for that mile and it would have made things a lot better.

Last I heard someone said this summer? I wonder if that was just to continue the 4 lanes down to Peytonsville. And 2016 for the overpass rebuild and full connecting 4 lanes?

Regardless, they should have done more last time instead of stopping so short. All they did was move the parking lot south a couple miles in the afternoon.

Especially since they knew 840 would be opening. And they had plenty of time thanks to all the delays on that.

If I recall other construction projects, I think they typically complete the overpasses and other such work before they work on the widening but who knows?

You're going to want to go west, and the other side of 840 to find a property like that, in that price range.

Two moves ago we settled for a home in a subdivision never again. Ideally we would like 5 to 10 acres. Our Max budget would be about 250k. Ideally we don't want to reside in Franklin that is just where the office would be. Seems like looking at the map a northly commute would make more sense. I don't mind the drive just want to be able to find a home in a smaller rural area.

Great suggestions by everyone above

I'd recommend getting some temp living for a brief period so you can find the home and locations that will work best for you and your family, and also have a personal lay of the land to know how far work, school, shopping would be from your potential homesites

They just started construction on this a couple days ago, at least that's what my wife said, and the orange road work signs were up that day. I guess she could be wrong but she said it's the widening of I65 to four lanes all the way to 840.

She doesn't have any insider connections--just pays better attention to that stuff than I do.

I'm not sure. I heard they were just taking bids now. But that's third-hand information so not worth much. I generally avoid the area except when school's out, it's possible to use the bypass from 840 in the morning and it's pretty reasonable (Still not worth heading south in the evening though).

I will say that Franklin->Fairview on 96 is usually a nice drive both ways.

Spring Hill's Wal-Mart just opened Wednesday, so we're way ahead of you.  (I have a Franklin address but I'm really in the Thompson Station area.) It's clean and shiny for now. I'm guessing that won't last long. They did have about the cheapest price I've seen locally on .45acp at $43 and change for WWB 230gr FMJ.

I like Fairview--considered it when shopping for a house recently. Looks like I'm probably going up north to Sumner County though where I found a stunning deal on a foreclosure.

I am Franklin technically but I am between Warner Parks and Pasquo off of Sneed.

I live a mile from the exit so I have been following it pretty closely.  As far as I know, all of the planning, bidding, etc is complete.  It truly now starts into the construction phase.  It's about a 70 million dollar project if I remember correctly. It will be a 10 lane overpass similar to McEwen and then the four lanes all the way down to 840.  You can go to TDOT's website and download the entire study, options, and planning.  I reviewed it before, but it's been a while.  They are re-routing the frontage road down the road a bit farther.  It will not be where it is now just before the mapco.

I think they are putting in a temporary overpass so they can remove the old one and start the new one from scratch.  It is going to be a mess for a long time.  Luckily, I work out of my house so I don't have to commute during rush hour.  It will be bad enough at normal times.  Once it is done it should be very nice though.

Yeah, really. It seems that every route I could take home has construction at the moment. Once I'm out of Cool Springs/Franklin, it's a breeze but it's a bear until then. I did find one relatively quiet way home but it adds enough extra distance that any savings cancel out.

Just checked the TDOT website.  For anyone interested, there is more info at : http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/i65WilliamsonCo/default.htm

Also a link to the timeline: http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/i65WilliamsonCo/timeline.htm

Even funnier is that they have a video of what the interchange will look like.  Our tax dollars at work:
