Who did he receive this letter from?

There basically only 5 places that are off limits to carry by law.

1. Inside of places that serve alcohol for onsite consumption. 39-17-1305

2. Rooms where a judicial proceeding is taking place. 39-17-1306

3. Schools. 39-17-1309

4. Publicly owned parks and recreational property. 39-17-1311

5. And any place where the property owner post signs in accordance with 39-17-1359

So I really have no idea to what law he would be referring to.

Ok. No legal reason you can't carry there except for the store legally posting that they want no armed customers in their stores.

The sign said more than that - I don't remember the specifics - I was summarizing - but it said less than the required following - or similar language:

PURSUANT TO T.C.A. § 39-17-1359, THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS

PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS ON THIS PROPERTY, OR WITHIN THIS

BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. FAILURE TO COMPLY

WITH THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER

STATE LAW AND MAY SUBJECT THE VIOLATOR TO A FINE OF NOT MORE

THAN $500.

They didn't get my business - and it was not a confrontation... maybe his receptionist heard most of it... But they will get my feedback...non-confrontationally - hopefully.

What do you all think of the actions of Mr. & Mrs X? Did they do a good job of defending 2nd Amendment rights?

I think they are clueless.

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:stockticker>HCP</st1:stockticker> in a store and 2nd amendment rights have nothing to do with each other.

What do you all think of the actions of Mr. & Mrs X? Did they do a good job of defending 2nd Amendment rights? Would you do the same as they did?

No.

All they did was take money from your daughter. They had no impact on the store or their carry policy. If you have a problem with a business not allowing carry you either discuss it with the owners or you just don’t go in the store.

The manager replied that this was TN law. "You can not have a handgun in any business in TN. We received a letter and the sign and put it on the door."

WTF????

WTF????

My thoughts exactly. I would be interested in sending this place some factual literature on TN gun carry laws that have already been posted here. But since they obviously did not research the package they received from Timbuktu and just complied they probably wouldnt read it anyway.

As far as the rude Pro gun pricks... that is just that, they picked a fight on purpose, whether or not they came back and made a purchase (because they felt bad - had a guilty conscience for picking on a little girl) or not they still picked the fight. I agree with the others I can see both sides but as gun owners and enthusiasts we have to understand that the entire world has their eyes on us looking for one little excuse to do the unmentionable, SO DONT ACT STUPID.
