If things fall apart badly enough before 2016, might be as impossible to elect a democrat in 2016 as it was to elect a republican in 2008. It hasn't been exactly great the last 5 years and doesn't seem trending upwards.

Things change so fast in politics. After 2000 they were bemoaning the imminent collapse of democrats into irrelevancy, a permanent republican majority ferever, until the republicans couldn"t quit crapping in the swimming pool.

Then in 2008 it was the permanent demise of republicans, democrats forever more. But the dems sure have been stinking up the pool. The public didn't start getting seriously sick of republicans until about this time in GWB's second term, so there's plenty of time for the public to sour on anything with a D tag.

Unfortunately, the R rinos seem working overtime to make themselves as unpopular and irrelevant as humanly possible. Edited by Lester Weevils

Yup, and that's the really stupid part. The "Tea Party" part can't swing a national election (okay debatable, but they can't swing the nomination, let's put it that way), but instead of letting the Dem machine simply hang itself with the continued terrible economy and the almost certain bummer that ObamaCare will prove to be in short order before '16, they are actually finding ways to be more obnoxious, rather than just sit on the sidelines saying "I told you so, nyah nyah".

Of course, Hildebeest will likely convince more than enough that she'll foster a "New" Democrat nirvana -- it might take both dissing and distancing BHO to do it, but unless things change from the slow slide into degraded Soviet Gray to rapid Argentina-esque Red, I think she can do it.

A firm NO on the Governator! I think Hillary was born on an alien spacecraft, maybe that can disqualify her from running.

Whatever happened to prominent military men running for office later in their careers instead of these "career" politicians?

I liked Ike. Best I remember. Things were pretty good growing up during that time.
