Rant on:

Quick note for Mods. The video is broken down into three parts. I actually wanted to post our little excursion we took our 12 year old niece on today, but the header here also "required" that I post this in the Politics subforum. So this is only part III. The whole thing will be in General without the Politics.

We have our 12 year old niece from TN up here with us, we take her everywhere because she really doesn't get to go anywhere unless we take her. (Been to 12 States now, and so many Battlefields she dreads when Im driving), and we were coming through lower Pa and she mentioned William Penn. Started talking to her about it, she knew quite a bit and I was surprised they were teaching stuff like that in school. They arent. She saw his picture on a Quaker Oats box and looked him up to see who he was. We started talking about the Quakers and Amish and she mentioned she would like to see them. Well, we are only 40 miles away so I took her today and she wanted to go on an Amish Buggy Ride, so we took her. The Amish man saw her and instead of sitting in the back, told us three to sit on the front with him and we did. I have been around the Amish since I was a kid, and just regular people to me other than their "ways" but she had never seen anything like it and really liked it. Until about 40 minutes into the ride.

We mount up and Im sitting there, ask the old Amish guy about some of the changes I noticed and he confirmed or said not true. It was us up front, and two couples in back. One couple from Sweden who we later found out where business owners with 300 employees and one couple from California. The second, I mean immediately upon getting on the buggy, everyone was seated we started hearing BS that had nothing to do with the Amish and the ride. First thing we hear was how he was a Corporate Executive out of California, 3 times. Then his mouth sent the ride downhill from there and culminated in something I was happy to not really hear much of for the last 5 days. Other than a few replies on here while on the phone sitting outside by the fire in the woods, ALONE, I have not had the TV on once, not had the radio on at all, no newspapers, no nothing. I prefer it that way. I have spent a large portion of my time looking again at the prices of Civil War firearms (They dropped way down in the last 5 or 6 months).

So I was asking a few questions, the Swedish couple asked a few questions, all related basically to life as an Amish person. But here are the questions Mr Corporate California Exeuctive asked.

Do you work? The guy explained that this is his job. He was a farmer for 10 years but slipped a disc and is retired, he makes his money giving tours to help him and his wife get by. (More on this later).

Are you on Social Security? No. Now I am sure a lot of people do not know that the Amish pay no taxes, are not subject to Government Regulation other than having headlights, tail lights and turn signals on their Buggy's, they fought in court years ago when the Government tried to force them to send their kids to public schools (The Amish won) and their Bishops are their Government. But this guy was leading, I dont think he cared at all about whether the guy was on Social Security or not.

Next questions "Did you own your farm? Do you use chemicals? How much do your farms cost, per acre?

No, he rented his farm, 70 acres. Yes, some Amish do use chemicals but they are getting back to natural. And for a 70 acre farm, about a million, one recently sold for 2.3 million to a housing developer and they didnt like that.

Then

Are you on Obamacare? He said "I hope not". The entire time he was attempting to give his tour and show us some of the houses with 3 and 4 generations of Amish and how they lived in each house etc. He started with some history but never got much of it out and he kept looking at me like "WTF"? Although I know Amish people don't think WTF, that's how he looked.

I didnt even bother videoing the last 40 minutes. Because as soon as California Executive said Obamacare, the Swedes wanted to know what that was all about anyway. And for the final 40 minutes mister loudmouth spent the entire time discussing social welfare and Obamacare, LOUDLY, and each time the Amish man would look back they were not even paying attention, looking at each other, talking about Obamacare. I learned the Swedes have a flat tax. Everyone pays 50% of their income right off the top. It helps pay for their Socialized medicine. Initially I thought California Executive was against Obamacare, until he started talking about how it will force small business to provide health care to those who dont have and need it or close their doors. Initially, it sounded like he was against it, but the more he talked with the Swedes, the more clear it became, this guy didnt care about business closing, he cared about who was paying, who wasnt and how people were going to be forced out of business unless they paid up. Personally, I didnt care one way or the other, we were on an Amish buggy ride. F'k Obamacare. But no, douchebag wanted to spend half a trip that cost 50 bucks, to talk about OBAMACARE.

THEN, all the while riding, there are four signs in the back of the buggy, cant miss them, they say "Gratuities Accepted", he (California guy) just asked the guy if he had a job, was just told he does, this is his retirement job to help them get by. We get out, I hand the Amish man a gratuity and Mr California Guy and Mr and Ms Swedish business owners (Who spoke perfect english) just get out and walk off, STILL TALKING ABOUT OBAMACARE. Just cant get away from the talk or the Liberals.

I cant say anything nice about them. Sorry mod, but douchebag is the nicest thing I can come up with. Here is a ten minute video, he was answering some questions, and the Obamacare thing started right after he said that the developer bought the property for 2 million then someone asks who the developer was. (???, are you stupid? This man is Amish and drives a buggy for a living). From that point on, no more tour, just Conversation between him and me for the next 40 minutes trying to talk over Obamacare.

When we were through I spent about half an hour talking to him. Wants to go back to Germany where his family is from in Munich, came over after the Amish broke from the Church after reformation. Nothing bad to say of course, being Amish, but the looks told the story. The young Amish guy before we mounted up told us he was a really good story teller, probably the best one they had, well he didnt get to tell any, because Obamacare was more important.

I didn't watch the video but I do have a question. In the screenshot of the video, is the guy from California the one on the left or right?

Don't be so insulting!

Those horses work and provide a service. They deserve a little more respect.
