Well, it might seem like a small step but it will fail. They will just be wasting $240,000.00 bucks to pay some guy from New York to come into the deep south and try and implement a program that has no chance of working. People in the South don't look at things like people in New York do. Plus I think the crime rate in New York is still about where it was before Bloomberg put the programs into effect which proves they didn't work.......jmho

No idea. Suggest you research the "High Point Drug Market Initiative" and report back with informed opinion so we can then decide whether to have you committed or not? ;)

They've been trying the same crap since I worked in Social Work and Substance Abuse back in the early 1970's. I guess it is always defensible use of the money, because how can you disprove the justification, "Well, it would have been even worse if we hadn't spent all that money."

I tried to but its just a buzzword fiesta.  Which is why I asked about it --- their documents go on and on about thwarting violence (a good thing, sure) but come up short on the "how" that is to be done.   Its very much an inner city / ghetto program and combine the 3 key features (new york, violence prevention, minority community) and I worry a bit....  but nowhere are guns/weapons mentioned at all....

I don't know, maybe, but a better alternative to the crime problem, especially involving organized gangs, is to shoot them

when you can, while they are in the act, and don't look back. That would be a solution for a police force in better days. I

doubt I would really want the modern day ones to do that, though.

When I read "They will pay $240,000 for a New York crime expert to teach city leaders steps from a proven initiative" I think of the Stop and Frisk program.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it; at least not yet.  There really isn't that much Chattanooga, on its own, to put in "gun control" measures so it's probably nothing more than a wast of people's money and who knows...maybe they'll actually come up with something that does help reduce crime/violence a little bit...I'm sure Chattanooga (like most cities) could use a little help. :)
