Armadillo sightings

I remember a guy on a jobsite claiming he trapped one on Brush Creek Rd in Fairview in 1985 or so.  We all thought he was crazy at the time.  I see them around here all the time.  Possum on the half shell.

When I was stationed in Savannah GA, we would see them dead on the road and each year they would be further and further north.  Recently, like within the last two years, I have started to see them here in Montgomery County, TN.  Haven't run into a live one yet but have seen a few on the road out on Hwy 149 going to the steam plant.  With as many as I see run over, there has to be a decent population of them in the woods.

I've seen 4 in the past week around west Nashville. All dead.

Saw one in Powell several years ago. Have been abundant in West TN for years. On a positive note I have heard they will eat fireants.

I had to run on off last year at my house. It looked like it was trying root up under my foundation. I was surprised how fast they could dig. It did a lot of damage before I was able to urge him to go wreck someone else's yard. I can't shoot one in my residential neighborhood, so next time I'm trying the machete.

I hate to keep resurrecting this thread but a trusted acquaintance spotted a dead armadillo today on Benders Ferry road in Mt. Juliet.

Here's the varmint that was poking around in the yard this morning....I've never seen one in this area. Washed the brightness a little to see the booger.

If you go hand to hand be careful touching it. They tend to carry leprosy.

About 5 years ago when middle TN flooded I made a trip to my hunting camp in Perry County.  Ground dwellers were all over the place as their homes were flooded.  For every possum or skunk or other vermin we saw there were 10 'dillos.  Some were live, other were road kill, but they were all over Perry Co.  The friend with me insisted on bringing back a young one that was road-kill with minimal damage.  He has young daughters and planned to tell them it was a baby dinosaur!  Hope his wife appreciated the line.

Saw one at mile marker 259 on 40 going West bound today, belly up.  That's the forth I've seen recently within a 10 mile stretch, looks like there are a bunch of them over there around the Carthage area.  I know there have been some spottings in Wilson county as well but doesn't seem like as many.

They have been in wTN now for 8-10 years. Get a box of 22lr and shoot them front to back or back to front. Broadside is hit or miss. Too much armor I guess.

Been seeing dead ones on a daily basis between montgomery and davidson county since about a month ago. Strange how few I've noticed before.

Yeah west Nashville and Cheatham County are thick with them. Tons of them DOR (dead on road)

I traveled from lenoir city to Mckenzie yesterday.saw the first one in Carthage then the numbers grew from there. Time to start looking into pellets guns. They will be in my neighborhood soon I guess. Already have fire ants in my yard so the dillos won't be far behind.
