I consider myself!!

Recommended Posts

I consider myself a crusty old man and tough as nails to many things but ever so often something proves different. The post 6.8 made today brought back a video I seldom watch any more because The crusty old tough as nails guy cannot hold up and I have tears rolling down my cheeks before the video is over. I was so touched by 6.8's video that I thought I would share another one. Hope it touches ya'll like it does me.

Oh the memories. I was a C-130 aircraft loadmaster for 21.5 years in the Air Force with 7644 hours in the sky. It was the best part of my life. I miss it so much. I didn't know how good I had it.  I should have stayed in for 30.

I have not watched it as much as I use to but when 6.8 made his post is reminded me that i had it. It was not a highly publicized video and I have often wondered why. It was sent to me by my Grandson while he was serving in Afghanistan. I took a little time and googled it and was surprised to see it had quite a few articles on it. I guess it may have been released at a time when there were what others may have considered more important news. Thanks for replies folks. I will now continue to watch it more often as it reminds me of our brave men and women in Uniform and how many blank checks have been paid and collected. Also how much they have sacrificed and how much our Government has done not to help them for far to many years. We need to continue to stand behind our troops and if you can find it possible make sure you become a member of the Wounded Warrior program. They are doing a great job of taking care of our troops since our Government can't seem to do it. Also if you cannot become a Wounded Warrior contributor please at least send a contribution to Fisher House as they stepped up to assist the families of the Fallen Hero's until our Government was shamed into doing their job and taking care of the families. I saw an interview last evening with Mr Fisher and he was asked if he got a thank you call from the President for his help and he said No. He said he did get a call from someone thanking him but he said it was just someone from Pentagon but he didn't know who. Now since the Bill was signed by the President to send the money it has not been sent. The Fisher House is sending each family $25,000.00 to help them until the checks from the Government do arrive. Those $25,000.00 checks to the families will not be reimbursed back by the Government because they were sent after the Bill was signed and the Fisher House new that when they sent them. Sorry for the long read.

Don't anyone take this the wrong way, as no one is more patriotic, appreciative and proud of our troops than I, and the sacrifices and loss by their families.

If you remember your history, many people just after the Revolutionary War felt exactly the same way, as the war widows and orphans had no means of support after losing the bread winner and their source or support. Many, many war widows and orphans were starving and lost their homes and were reduced to accepting charity. There was a great out cry and a bill was introduced to Congress to compensate the widows and orphans for their loss.

It was re-soundly debated and defeated by our founding fathers. Not because they were cold hearted and didn't care, as a matter of fact, they passed the hat. No, they defeated it because they knew if they made an exception to the provisions outlined in the new Constitution where it would eventually lead. Look at where we are today with all the entitlement programs.

From a Constitutional Republic perspective, it's not the governments job to provide for anyone, it's their job to provide us the opportunity and keep the nation running and safe. It's our job, responsibility and privilege as citizens to help and support our veterans and their families generously. The Wounded Warrior Project and others are excellent and efficient organizations run better than anything the government could put together.

I'm a 20 year combat veteran myself, an like I said, no one has more compassion for the soldier and their families than I but, we bare responsibility as citizens for the well being of our veterans and their families, not Washington.

I don't plan are arguing this point with anyone but is that not what every tax payer is already doing is funding our military? That means all parts of it including the funding of the families of our Fallen Hero's. I give to Wounded Warriors every month and I also sent a donation to Fisher House last week for their efforts to help. Our present administration can find many ways to spend our tax payer dollars by funding rebels in foreign nations all over the world when help is needed here at home. My mother always said that charity begins at home. I believe that with all my heart so you take care of the families of our wounded and Fallen hero's first and then you take care of the poor here and you focus on what this country needs first. Then after you have fixed all the problems here if there is any change left over then and only then do you look at helping a foreign nation with their problems...........jmho
