I needed my toys again , I decided to do some rebuilding and get my garage cleaned out , some will be for sale but not the Rupp. While one of our four wheelers is down I figured it's time to fix'em all. My 1996 XR 600 needed new rear bearings and prob a carb rebuild , then it started.

I decided let's get my wife's old 1971 Rupp out of the way of the garage refrigerator door , we're always dodging around it to get the fridge door open.. Well , after a carb rebuild kit and a lot of soaking , new points and condenser , plug and tank varnish removing I am proud to announce it is running again !

I'm really good with mechanical things, I've built engines and replaced about every part you can replace on an automobile, but bikes are something new to me and especially this bike is almost impossible to find parts for I believe they only made them 2 years.

That XR looks new, the paint isn't even rubbed off of the frame. That bike was THE beast in its day.

I never took to the way it handled in the woods. My riding buddy had one and we'd swap bikes from time to time and I much preferred my KDX.

While the XR made a ton of torque, it's weight held it back IMO. I was always amazed at what Scott Summers was able to do with the thing on the GNCC circuit the times I watched him race. Good times and memories.
