SKS Norinco (New To Me) Gun-Porn Inside

Greetings folks.  I know little about SKS's but being the recent owner of an SVT40 I figured I better get her little sister in the collection.  I do seek to put a ComBloc optic on this so I was glad to see it already had a rail on it.

Thought it was strange there’s no bayo on it.  Possibly an early Sporter import?  And what's with the combination flash hider/brake? What can you folks tell me about this rifle.

What I can tell you is it's a numbers matching Chinaman. It has an aftermarket pin on muzzle brake that will probably fly off when shooting it. it appears not to have been shot much. You do realize that the receiver cover scope mounts don't holds zero right? You will have to rezero the scope everytime you break it down for cleaning. That rail on the receiver cover it's probably after market. That and the muzzle brake hurt the value a little bit. The only ones that can really be dated are the arsenal 26 rifles. Unless I'm not seeing something correctly it appears to me that the rail is attached to the receiver and not the cover.

The top cover should come off without removal of scope but the BCG can't come out without removal of it, I would think anyways. Not sure though, never messed with a scoped SKS before.

Looks like the bayonet lug was milled off. If I'm not mistaken, the ATF, at least for a while, didn't allow them to be imported with the bayonet attached.

I didn't notice that until you said that. Guess I need to be more absorbant, or something along those lines.

Lots of chinese SKS's were neutered of their bayonet lugs to meet with import regulations. Makes them "sporterized" and less lethal....you know from all the bayoneting incidents that were so common during the Bush I and Clinton eras...

The scope mount on the side of the receiver is OEM they are slightly more rare than the plain sided receivers.  Good luck at finding the scope mount for the rail.  Apparently only a few hundred were imported and often cost more than the rifle.

Once upon a time you could buy a China scope, rail mount, and a carrying case with a star on it.

I believe they used to call that model a sharp shooter.
