Ideas for knife display

Recommended Posts

I want to make some kind of display for some of my fixed blades to go over my fireplace. I'd rather have them somewhere I can look at 'em than stuck in a drawer or on a shelf. 8 to 12 knives ranging from about 5" to 14" overall. ESEE Candiru would be the smallest, Ontario Night Stalker the largest.

I've got a pretty big picture frame that's a little beat up. Thought about attaching it to a piece of plywood then torch it, finish it and distress it a little. I could also use the frame on a piece of corrugated metal with plywood for a backing. Since the knives won't be permently attached I'm thinking I could use hooks, screws, maybe drill and use dowels to set the knives on. Other than that I could go to the lake and get some drift wood.......that's about as far as I've got with the drift wood idea.

That's all I've came up with at the moment. It doesn't need to be elaborate, the plainer the better. No kids so I don't have to worry about anybody getting a hold of one and getting hurt.

So people, help me out. Got any ideas???? Edited by jimmydeuce

Take the drift wood and either drill or cut small slots in it? Folders would be opened and inserted into drift and obviously fixed would just slide in. Kinda resemble taking a knife and sticking it into the piece of wood...

Thanks!! Thought about doing that and it would probably be the easiest thing to do. It could just set on the mantel. I might go get a few pieces and see what I can do with them.

NO, NO, NO let a few of us come over, take the mantel down and let us throw them to make them stick into the wood mantel.

Life sized Obama doll, made out of styrofoam.

I always thought that obama was synthetic, but didn't know he was styrofoam!

My library walls are covered in a variety of larger weapons.   Basically the 2-3 nail/screw approach is used.   2 for example can be drive in and the blade goes between them, they catch on the guard and hang there point down.   The angled or horizontal approach is similar, you need 1 at the guard/blade meetup, one more at the back of the grip, and one *above* the blade (at the tip) so it cannot rotate UP.   I have hung everything from a 2h axe to swords to maces and flails and more and none of them use more than 3 drywall screws.   However, I do not have any kids --- if you have rowdy kids or other careless folks that frequent the room, you may need additional hardware to prevent someone from knocking one off as they WILL obviously come off the wall easily if poked or prodded.  And it sucks to have to fix a hole in the floor or wall or someone's foot after that happens.

Edit: the 2h axe is decorative.  The rest are real.  I think a real 2h axe may need 4 or 5 to hold the weight, this one can be lifted by an 8 year old with 1 hand.
