Carbon 15 catastrophic failure

Keep in mind this is NOT my weapon and was a post made by 556 Tactical LLC on Facebook I saw earlier.

"Bushmaster Carbon 15 that was dropped onto the deck. That's right, simply dropping the rifle caused this catastrophic failure."

LMAO, yeah, I think someone made a comment on there along the lines of "send it to a gunsmith and have em slap some silly puddy on it." I about fell off my stool when I read that one.

Oh come on, that's not so bad...a little duct tape will hold it together until the Crazy Glue dries. Then you're back in the fight.

Oh, I know it would actually work. I was in aircraft maintenance when I was in the AF. Give me enough double bubble and f4 tape and I can fix damn near anything.

I had heard that the first carbon's had some breaking issues but the picture of the second one has the same start of serial number as mine (actually looks like a higher serial number). Makes me wonder. Anyone got a .458 upper i can borrow? I will bring the string.

The carbon 15 is a carbon enforced polymer material from what I have gathered....

Before I knew any better I bought one as my first black rifle ... Never had any problems... But knowing what I know now I wouldn't buy another one .... I prefer forged aluminum :-) Edited October 10, 2013 by mcordell

If that's supposed to be a carbon fiber reinforced polymer, they're in desperate need of some process development to get the fibers located in the right places and oriented in the right direction.

That said, I really don't understand the obsession with reducing the weight of a rifle that isn't heavy to begin with and is generally only carried from the truck to the firing line and back. The compromises don't seem worthwhile.

I completely agree.. Especially when you can snag a forged upper for $75 or around $50 for a blem, and a lower around $90-100 or in the $50 range for a blem... We are talking $100-$150 for a forged receiver set

It may not weigh a whole lot but when you're walking miles with it and several mags, it adds up. Ounces lead to pounds and pounds lead to, "GAH, MY FREGIN  FEET!!!!" lol. ;)

Though, this option is a big and resounding "@#$% NO".

Because secretly we all are navy seals in hiding just waiting for SHTF. Weight means everything when you have to carry everything you need to save the world. LOL

Ok no big deal if one breaks you have everything you need to build another gun, minus lower and upper for 200 and you back in the fight

Yeah, then you're into it for what you've could've gotten a entry level Colt or BCM in the first place.

Bushy has chrome lined bore, so that is a plus right there, I think they are a good starter ar, and sell them as such nothing more
