Geuss it's about time to dust off the bow...

...less than a month to archery opener. Time to start getting proficient again, and time to start doing some scouting. Had absolutely no luck during archery last year; hopefully, I can change that this time around.

What's everybody here flinging arrows with? I've got a Mathews Q2 that I traded a perfectly good Ruger P94 for back in NC. This bow has yet to draw blood, and that's just not right.

I picked up a fully loaded Mathews FX for 150 awhile back from a buddy of mine, can't wait to kill a deer with it. Before that I used a Darton for many years, killed alot of animals with that bow. Hopefully I will have good luck with my new Mathews FX well new for me.

i just traded a fellow member for a Horton Explorer XL150 crossbow, i'm going to fling the sharp sticks at them with it this year...

I had a crossbow very touchy though, make sure that when you pull the string back and lock it in, that both sides of the bow string is the same length or it will cause the bolt (Arrow) to shoot, but not were you are aiming. If you need any help with it or have a question let me know of course if you already know then don't ask. I do all of my bow tuning myself and know a little about Bows and crossbows. What I like to do when I lock the bow string back I measure both sides of the string to make sure they the same legnth and if so mark the string in the lock position beside the risor with a permanant marker so the next time you will know if you are centered or not.

If I wasn't at college I would be practicing as well. My father and I always started practicing in July so we would have July and August to practice. One month on the ground, and one month in the tree stand of practice is what we did. He would make me fit three arrows in the size of coffee cup all touching each other in the bullseye before he would let me bowhunt because he didn't want me wounding a deer and killing it inhumanely which I thank him for that. I made him do his part too lol. Good luck this season though!

I hope my bow season goes better than the last one. Last year was my first season hunting here in new territory instead of the places in NC where I grew up. Did a fair amount of preseason scouting on the WMA right around the corner from my house. Saw a fair amount of tracks and other sign, and even jumped a decent-size doe one evening... but once the season came around, I hunted in various spots there quite a few times, and never saw a single deer.

I did end up snagging a decent buck up north at Chickamauga Creek with the rifle later in the season, but that just not nearly as satisfying as putting an arrow into a deer 15 yards away...

I hope to tag one this year with a bow, as well. I have some private property that I have permission to hunt as well as a couple WMAs that are said to have some good specimens. If not with the bow, then I'll try the BP and the rifle.

I have a Bear Buckmaster that tuned up real easy like and shoots pretty decent. I'm shooting low poundage for most (down around 60), but I'm happy with it. I need to couple square hay bales to set up in the corner of my fence to catch any errant arrows and I can get back to practicing. Kinda hard to practice in a neighborhood with .5 acre when you are used to 2.5!
