My favorite from any of them on any issue... Not sure why. I know most of you believe that nobody up there gives a rat's behind, but I spent some time up there a couple of decades ago shadowing politicians. I walked away vowing to never return because I did not think I could ever make a difference. It seemed like everyone was a hamster on a wheel much of the time. You have to give so much to get a little for your constituents.

Anyway here is Alexander's response I got today:



"Thanks very much for getting in touch with me and letting me know what’s on your mind regarding defunding the health care law and the government shutdown.

The President’s health care law was an historic mistake because it expanded and made even more expensive a health care delivery system that costs too much and restricts peoples’ choices. It must be dismantled and repealed. I fought strongly against when it was proposed and when the president and Democrats forced it through Congress, I voted against it the first time, and I’ve been working to dismantle and repeal the law ever since – including voting 23 times on the Senate floor to repeal, defund, delay, or otherwise stop the law from being implemented. The federal government shutdown has been disappointing. It’s been disappointing to me, to those who are affected by it and, I’m sure, to the American people. What has been especially disappointing to me is the unwillingness of President Obama and Senate Democrats to resolve the differences of opinion that exist – stubbornness in the face of unreasonableness that is not good for our country.
It’s not unusual that we have differences of opinion in Washington, D.C. In fact, the Founders created a government with the expectation that it would resolve disputes we couldn’t resolve in our city councils, county commissions or state legislatures. And the Founders intended that those disputes not be resolved easily by creating a system of checks and balances – a Supreme Court, a presidency, a Congress – that would keep the majority from riding roughshod over the minority. A king is efficient – tyranny is efficient.
But what the Founders didn’t envision was a system that produced permanent stalemate. They didn’t envision that the government would simply shut down or stop operating and trying to come to a result.
Congress took a step toward reasonableness on September 30, when the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate passed legislation to make sure that active-duty military personnel are paid during the shutdown. We should make absolutely sure that we’re not running the risk that a single soldier fighting in Afghanistan has a paycheck that is late, and the mortgage can’t be paid.
The House has taken other steps toward reasonableness. For example, it passed a proposal on September 28 that would have funded the federal government while delaying Obamacare’s individual mandate – which requires Americans to buy health insurance – and repealing the burdensome tax on medical devices. President Obama has already delayed at least seven major provisions of his health care law, and the medical device tax increases the cost of life-saving devices and is already killing good jobs for Tennesseans.
I supported the original House bill, which would have defunded Obamacare. I also voted in favor of two procedural motions to cut off debate on the House-passed bill and move to a final vote on that bill, because I supported the House-passed bill and the failure of either vote would have ensured that the government shut down.
Now, with the shutdown in effect, I hope Democrats begin to make reasonable efforts to resolve our differences. And Republicans need to earn the trust of the American people so we can take over the government the way the Constitution says: elect more Republican senators and a Republican president to delay, dismantle, repeal and replace Obamacare with step-by-step reforms that reduce the cost of health care.
I appreciate your taking the time to let me know where you stand on this important issue. I will be sure to keep your comments in mind as this is being discussed and debated in Washington and in Tennessee.

Tuke has a much better chance in the general than Carr in the primary, so everybody might get their wish, in a most left-handed way. And I do mean left.

I will vote for Carr in the primary, but I won't vote for Tuke in the general. We don't need another lefty commie.

I have to imagine that Alexander is one of the most despised politicians in the State at the moment.  Only time he votes against Obama is when it makes no difference if he does, every other time he is right there with his tongue where it will do him the most good, so it really makes no difference if Tuke wins or not, the results of Tennessee's Senator's votes will be the same. If Alexander gets beat on any level, then the Establicans might decide to court the Conservatives once again.

Oh course it matters if a Republican Senate seat goes to a Dem. You just can't rationalize that away because Lamar isn't as conservative as you'd like.

 

I ain't voting for a Dem in this day and time, no how no way, nor am I abstaining from voting so that a Dem vote counts that I didn't neuter.

I don't write the congress critters very often any more, and they hardly ever vote the way I advise. It is obvious they never read my mail, and I NEVER read theirs anymore. It is only fair. Neglecting to read their insincere insipid replies not only saves on the blood pressure medication expenses, but also frees up time for more important persuits such as petting the dawg or writing dumb messages on the interwebz.
