getting a stalker's attention

A friend of mine asked me the other day about how to put the "fear of God" into a man who is stalking his daughter.

The stalker is now in jail for this offense but it is the third time he has been jailed for stalking and death threats to his daughter.

This guy is a nut case and will never willingly change his behavior. The dad does not think the legal system will keep him locked up long enough.

His question to me, and I pose it to the forum, what could he do, non-lethally, to subdue this person to have a "heart-to-heart" talk so he could put the fear of God into him and convince him it is in his best interests to pursue another career.

I have suggested a taser or pepper spray but I do not have any personal experience with either.

What say ye?

Unfortunately, the news is littered with stories of people who did everything right but the law failed them and a loved one was killed by some psycho.

His daughter needs to become proficient with a firearm and carry all the time. Anything the father does to 'get the guy's attention' will likely be actionable.

The wrong end of a nice 9mm loaded with JHP. IIRC, the current survival rate is 10 of 11, so, the likely hood of it being lethal is slim. The effects of such a "Come to Jesus" meeting with his prey should have the desired results.

She's attempted to do the right thing, one at least three seperate occasions, by having him arrested. The police and court system are supposed to help protect us. When they fail, there is only one solution.

Forget the heart to heart, I already fear for her life, that is the next time he comes near her.

hahahahah I used to use that on my privates when they just WOULD not come around to my way of thinking..i.e. the army way of thinking.

if they were too big for me, then I had a very good friend named Joe. Joe was the 3rd squad leader and we would both get into the act. afterwards, the young individual not only knew that we were both meaner than anyone else, but that we all (nco's) would help each other get them on the right track.

AS for the female. I agree with her getting training, getting a firearm and permit and carrying. there is NO substitution for personal responsibility. her father can't be there with her 24/7 and this man will eventually get out of jail.

since the court system has already failed her and the police are NOT there to protect her (SCOTUS says so) and couldn't be there all the time anyway, then she needs to ensure that she can take care of the problem.

MAKE NO MISTAKE...this woman is in a serious situation and she had better recognize it and take steps to defend herself because her stalker has shown already that he doesn't care about breaking the laws in order to get to her.

forget a heart to heart. if a man has no fear of incarceration or possible death by law enforcement officers, then she needs to take the time to learn how to use a firearm and apply it when he shows up. he's already shown his inclination to see her dead I.E the death threats.

next time she sees him in a threatening manner, she needs to act to stop the threat.

She has been given quite a few opportunities. she KNOWS that this man is after her for no good reason. she KNOWS that he wishes her ill. He's in jail NOW. she needs to act to secure her own safety NOW.

not many people have that opportunity. I suggest she takes advantage of it.

It's very hard to defend your daughter when you are incarcerated for attempted murder, as well...

I guess he just need to pre-pay for his daughter's funeral.

Keep in mind that "subduing" someone, even non-lethally, is at best false imprisonment and at worst kidnapping. The best action is to prepare the daughter to defend herself. If she's old enough to get a HCP, tehn do it. If not, look into legal alternatives.

I know the Franklin PD is putting on a rape prevention class in the next few weeks. Something like that would be a start. She has to take self-defense seriously. Even the father can't be around all the time. People like this dont change by putting the fear of God in them. They generally have to move on to someone else.

Don't pursue non-lethal methods if there is sufficient reason to fear serious harm from the guy. If he comes after her again, it should potentially be the last thing he does... but, for no other reason than to prevent harm to the victim.

It would be a bad idea to escalate the situation by seeking him out to threaten him once he is released. That indicates premeditation and desire for retribution, if an incident did occur. Bad mojo.

This is why we all need to be self defense aware. Perhaps a good lawyer will help get him off the streets but she has to have the ability to defend herself.

I really do hope this turns out right without harm to her but it may not.
