I'll save you guys some trouble. The first response will be Remington 870, then about 20 people will agree. Then someone will say the Mossberg 500 is great too, but you can't go wrong with the 870. After about 16 more posts for the 870 someone will suggest the Benelli Nova, then 10 more 870 and someone will pop in and mention some FN shotgun.

Then some smart guy will recommend a good autoloader.

What are the prices you all see teh Winchester 1300 at? I found on thats "used" but never fired for $299. I think its a 16" or 18" with the extended mag for 8 rds.

From what I've seen that's a pretty good price, especially since it's never been fired. If you're looking for a good self defense shotty, I'd jump on that one.

I've thought about what to load in my 870, my house isn't very large and any invader will be no futher that 15 feet maybe 20 so I have mine loaded with 6-#2BB Nitro Mags. At a short distance it still just blows one big hole even with an 18" IC choke barrel. I'm confident in the loads, if I have to fight someone outside I still have my Glock 21 on my side.
