Man accidentally shoots him self in Walmart

I hear about a guy that use to carry a Glock in an old worn out leather holster and he sat down one time to many in his car with that holster and some of the floppy leather lodged in the trigger and the gun discharged bullet grazing his buttocks passing threw the car seat and floorboard into his driveway.

Yarp. Here's the scoop, old one, but a good one to revisit.

Why would anyone carry without a holster. There should be no slack in gun safety. This was human error. I have no tolerance for stupidity.

It was either a gun with no safety on or he was the unluckiest man alive.

We can all agree he suffers from a lack of intelligence, but these types of incidents is why I won't carry a round chmbered unless there's an external safety.

This is not a "round in the chamber" issue and personally, the idea of not carrying a round in the chamber is, IMAHO, a "safety measure" that is based on a false premise.  However, more to the point, there is no modern firearm I know of that will fire unless someone pulls the trigger. There is also no amount of safeties that can't be defeated by stupidity.

Sure it is a safety thing, as I say every time, how many people do you know that have an AD/ND that wake up in the morning and say "Hey, I'm gonna drop my gun today and watch it fire off". It happens because of two things, a round in the chamber and something hitting the trigger.  If you can't pull the trigger because of a safety, you've fixed the problem.  If you hit the trigger and there's no round in the chamber, nothing happens.

Not going to defend this retard that shot himself, but having a safety on or doing an Israeli carry would've have just saved him a whole lot of trouble.  We're not police doing a felony stop with our guns holstered, if you're in a situation that hits you so fast you can't flip a safety off, you're already screwed because you won't have time to draw.

he's lucky someone has not mistaken him for a robber. Every robber I have seen in news video's always pull their guy from their belts and never from a  holster. That is why I thought he was probably an illegal immigrant. That is how most of them pack their guns. It's amazing you don't hear about more of these types of shootings by these idiots.......jmho

Lately, I mostly carry a j-frame revolver.  No safety and a round in all five chambers.  I use a holster.  I am not really worried about shooting myself accidentally with it.

Other guns in my carry rotation are

1. a P3AT (which is DAO and has no external safety) - I carry it in a holster with a round in the chamber and don't have any real concern of accidentally shooting myself with it

2. a CZ (vz) 82 - which has a safety but I carry it hammer down with a round chambered and the safety off.  In that mode, it is DA/SA.  I use a holster and don't worry about shooting myself accidentally with it.

3. a Ruger P95 - the one I sometimes carry is a safety/decocker model but I just use it as a decocker and carry hammer down with a round chambered and the safety off.  In that mode, it is also DA/SA.  Once, again, I use a holster and don't worry about shooting myself accidentally with it.

This works well, for me, because it means that even though the guns are different the 'manual of arms' is pretty much the same for all of them as with the revolver, especially for the long-trigger-pull first shot.  Use of external safeties - which I consider to be extraneous on such handguns - would eliminate that consistency.
