Last few days I have had emails disapearing. Emails that I needed to reply to. Check this morning and every email, contact, sent mail, every in every folder folder, everything gone. Thought maybe I had to change a setting. Thought I may have possibly made an incorrect change.

Couldnt find any of the mails anywhere. I keep up with tech, new and updates to old. Why I havent seen this I dont know. Doesnt seem like gmail has been making much of an effort to let people know. But if you emailed me through my gmail and still have the emails (Assuming you werent using gmail and everything was deleted), send again and change the address  extension from @gmail.com to @usgunowners.org

I can guarantee they wont be lost. After 15 years of yahoo mail with no problems, I switched over to gmail a few months ago so I didnt lose a lot but some of it was important. . Ill be deleting those accounts altogether.

BTW, I dont open emails from unknown senders without scanning first. These scripts can be attached to legit emails.

Wow. I'll admit I used Gmail from Freshman year of high school up until about 2 months ago. That would be...about 6 years. I never noticed any issue like this. Honestly, I always considered Gmail to be the best email service, but this is admittedly inexcusable.

@icloud for me!

Bad luck for sure. I'm guessing the NSA confiscated them...

Just contact the NSA and ask them to restore your email.

This should be a thing. Imagine the NSA being inundated with requests like this from the millions of citizens.

I have to email accounts. 1 with yahoo and 1 with Gmail and I have not had issues with either one except that yahoo makes changes and slams you with them whether you want the or not....

Maybe you guys can help?

I have Verizon wireless and they do not provide any sort of email service. I'm stuck using the free email services also and not happy with them (all the spam and ad's. etc.). Half the time my Yahoo mail doesn't operate properly or won't open or is very slow.

I'm willing to pay for a decent email provider! I did a search and didn't come up with too much.

Any ideas?

Reagan.com. At least your info isnt sold to the highest bidder. $40 per year. And it would irritate every liberal you know.

Tanker, are you using gmail address in a native format or are you forwarding other non gmail accounts to your gmail account? If forwarding, gmail has recently cracked down on that due to spam issues. I had the same trouble as I was forwarding several non gmail accounts to a single gmail to make multiple accounts easy to check, but I had to rework all those since gmail blacklisted them.

No forwarding. See link in OP and comments. Its happening and has been happening all over and Google knows about it.

I know GMail allows pop access to your mail from a client such as Outlook. I use it to pull gmail to my own Outlook, since I like to read email there instead of the web browser (I don't care for GMail's native labeling method). Anyway, inside Outlook there is an option to leave the mail on GMails server, or remove it after checking. I wonder if you have an email program that you set up to check GMail and did not select the option to leave the mail. If not, it likely could have pulled all of your mail down and removed it from the server.

I use Gmail as POP from Pegasus, the only puter based email program I've ever used, since DOS days.

Has nifty "selective download", shows what's on whichever email POP server, can leave or delete on server, or download with option of leave it or delete it after the download.  If you leave it after downloading, next check has option to only show "unread" mail on email server.

Just in the process of switching my 20 year email with Comcast to gmail. So far I haven't had any issues. Hope it remains that way!

I have four emails, a company email (the folks I contract with), the isp email, the email on my little web hosting acct, and gmail. I use the gmail for anyone that will probably be sending useless junk mail. The only reason I got the gmail was because you apparently have to have one for android devices to work right.

They are all set up for pop retrieval downloaded to the puter. On mac they are pop downloaded into Mac Mail program and on PC pop downloaded to winders live mail. Both mail programs are set up to delete from the server 3 days after download. Since the pc and mac are usually running 24/7, thataway I get all the mail to both puters. The phone and pad are also setup to pop download, but those are set up non-automatic, to keep the little devices free of tons of spam and useless stuff. I only tell the phone or pad to download mail in unusual cases or emergencies. Ferinstance in case of long isp outage at home or whatever.

Yeah, I use my domain email for "serious" stuff, a couple of Comcast ones and a Gmail for everything else, and even an old Netscape one that's still valid with the dialup account I still keep, all with POPs set in Pegasus. I actually don't leave anything on the various servers. All available via webmail too, of course, if I'm somewhere and need to.

I've got around .5 gig of saved emails that go back to the early 90's pre web days, for no particularly good reason, nostalgia mostly I reckon. With Peggy you can just copy the whole shebang over into any new installation on a different box.

Gmail can be a bit clunky at times, but I've never had any problems with it.   I've been using it since the beta days when you had to be invited in order to get an account.

Man, I never knew email could be so complicated. Never had any issues with GMail.

Well gmail is OK, I just have a grudge against google and don't care for reading mail online. The computer-resident mail programs are faster to use and if you have an important mail from awhile ago you need to find, and the web happens to be down, it sure is nice to have local copies.

Another issue only of relevance for the tinfoil hat folks-- Some of the NSA leak articles, if I recall correctly-- They claim that it is entirely legal to snoop around on mail left on the server, IIRC without even a warrant, just a supervisor OK. Well they can probably hack the home computers and get yer mail as well, without a warrant. If they happen to be interested in stuff like nerd code talk, viagra spam and get rich quick offers from nigeria.
