Remember the case of Jose Guerena?

The Marine who was killed in a SWAT raid on his home. Piña County and other culpable parties just settled a wrongful death lawsuit with his widow for $3.4 million. This op-ed lays out some good points without declaring Guerena a saint.

Cannot blame the SWAT team.  I blame the 'War on Drugs' and the half-ass way it is being conducted.   We need to either get real frickin serious and draconian in what we are doing or call a truce as the way we are operating isn't working.

Discussed in depth here as well:

I don't agree with the decision but it is what it is. Better than having a judgement much larger for the taxpayers to have to pay.

He was hardly an angel and had been arrested several times prior to this for drugs.

So, send in SWAT for everything? Um hum.
That's the lesson. The rest is just fluff. It has nothing to do
with whether or not someone is an angel.

And don't try to use the excuse that they did what they were
trained to do. There is blame enough to go around the world
with what happened. They didn't bring anyone to anything
more than vigilante justice. They dropped the ball completely
on the idea of protecting justice.

Wait until it happens to you. Maybe, by then, you will change
your mind about what justice is supposed to mean. Edited by 6.8 AR
