National Parks

After retiring, I started spending more time on my Civil War hobby. Love to travel to National Battlefield Parks such as Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. I know with my Tennessee HCP I can have a loaded gun in my car in Pennsylvania but when I enter a battlefield park such as Gettysburg should I unload the weapon and separate the gun from the ammo. Would this still be legal? Then I guess I could reload when I left the park area. I am not sure how this works.

From Handgunlaw.us FAQ page, #5

It is illegal to carry in any National Park even if you have a Permit/License

that is legal in the state the park is in. When in a National Park your firearms must be unloaded and stored in the trunk of your vehicle. If you do not have a trunk the firearm must be in a locked box behind the seat in a Pickup or all the way in the back of an SUV.

Thanks for the info. I usually drive a van so I guess I need to get a lock box.

Have saddlebags?

I talked with a Natchez Trace Parkway ranger....he said gun in one saddle bag and ammo in the other would be good enough. At least for him, can't say that would necessarly go for all National Parks.
