i had a tn. state trooper and a county mounty tell me that i couldnt carry in a bank and or open carry about a year ago. told the trooper i would prove him wrong. got it in writing and he refused to return my call. ps he didnt write me a traffic ticket which i did deserve though.

There is a problem waiting to happen! If I am in a bank and a manager spots my gun somehow and calls the law and it's one of these guys that don't know the law then i am in for a ride to the station in cuffs. The officers will be in deep s*** once they find out what the laws actually are.

I, too, had a conversation with a 1st TN bank manager and a Wackenhut security guard about carrying in a bank. That mgr told me that if he spotted someone in line with a gun that he would press the alarm. I asked why but guessed that I already knew the answer. I believed that bank employees are paranoid about unknown customers with guns and thats true. I guess that I might be also if I worked in a bank.

I explained that it was not against the law for anyone with a permit to carry there and then told them the places where we are restricted. They would have to legally post the bank as off limits to HCP holders but that would not stop any criminal. I did not go into detail either about what a legal sign is. They still have not posted it and I still go in with my gun.

You can't carry in my church.............It is a church with a private school, they are on the same grounds, no seperation, sunday school takes place in the school..

When I was a bank manager, and I saw someone carrying I would always go up and ask them about it! I had a guy pull a HK on me one day, it was a very nice pistol!

I had a guy at arbys tell me I couldn't walk around with a gun. I showed him my permit and told him I darn well could. I asked him if it made him uncomfortable. He said he had been robbed a few times and he was very uncomfortable. I told him he should blame the criminals that robbed him and not the gun. Furthermore he should look into getting a permit himself.

He was not amused.

The only state around here that specifically states you cannot carry in a bank is Georgia.That was a problem for me as my sometimes employer's bank was in Ga.However in the last few years they have opened up several branches in Tn.

at the Stone Crest hospital in Smyrna there is a sign at the front door saying "gun`s not permitted in the hospital"...I don`t know the other hospitals tho, but this one has a posted sign.

I had to carry my son to the Vanderbilt ER a few times for an Asthema breathing treatment because our incident occurred after doctor's office hours.

When I went to take him in, there's a guard and metal detector.

When emptying my pockets the first thing he said was that he'd have to hold onto my pocket knife. I never said anything about my firearm. I had to run back to the parking garage with my knife and pistol and come back to meet the wife and kid in admitting.

What's the deal with that as opposed to coming in the main entrance with my pocket knife (in pocket) and firearm (concealed)?

The reason behind that is not so much for your "average Joe" excuse the pun, but if it's like it is at most hospitals here it's for the gangbangers and riff-raff that will more than likely be coming through the ER as opposed to the main entrance.

The MHHS (Morristown-Hamblen Health System) hospital has signs at each entrance to its parking lots with a revolver in the red circle with slash and the words "No concealed weapons". No signs on any of its doors. LOL

True..I guess I can admit I saw the answer coming.

I just can't get over all the panic over a pocket knife.

However, I have enough "airline weaponry" in my pockets and hanging off my belt, it's a wonder I don't just check my pants at the door and walk around in my tighty wighties during my visits to these type places.

Abused Children being rushed in, shootings, domestic abuse, etc.

I think it is more to try and place an emotional "speed bump" for people.

There are a lot of Dad's, irate Father In Laws, etc. that might want to sneak in and find a low life son-in-law that just beat his daughter, or abused his grandaughter. Etc.

Reminds me a little of what my Step Dad used to say. He worked the courts n Metro. He said he was most nervous when he had a child sex offender, or a rape suspect escorting to trial. He was always nervous "Dad" was going to step out and take a shot and end up getting him by mistake.

Happened in Nashville.....maybe 20 years ago. Well respected pharmacist IIRC. His daughter's boyfriend had seriously abused his grandchild. "Dude" was in the waiting room and Grandpa came up and expressed his displeasure. With a pistol.

About 11 p.m. on the night of Jan. 9, 1986, gunshots shattered the quiet of this waiting room as a local pharmacist named Charles Jones shot and killed Bobby Gann, a 23-year-old wrecker operator from Hendersonville, as Gann slept in a chair.

Jones calmly handed over his .38 to a bystander, other patient family members screamed, nurses came running and did CPR on the victim, but Gann died from his gunshots.

The events that led up to the shooting garnered Jones a lot of sympathy in some quarters. Jones’ grandson, a little boy named Ryan Reed, was in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit near death, a victim of beating and cigarette burns, and Jones was convinced that Gann, who was his daughter Angela Reed’s boyfriend, had abused the child. The little boy died the next day.

Charles Jones was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and served a short prison sentence.
