I felt the same way. Proud of him, sad for the lack of recognition (which he probably wouldnt want) and glad to hear his story. Teary eyed read...

That was definitely a moving story of a soldier's dedication and sacrifice for this country. Our country and our freedom is very easily taken for granted. It is good to be reminded of the brave soldiers who defend us. To Col Howard and all who have served, Thank You!

We are deeply diminished when Veterans that are harder than Woodpecker lips pass.. Kudos to his son for following in his Dad's foot steps..

Interesting that this article is from 3 years ago.  And more interesting (to me at least) that's written by David Feherty (the golf announcer) whom I thoroughly enjoy listening to.

Heres another relatively unknown great soldier ya may have never heard of... Smedley Butler... Winner of the Brevet Medal (...the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor for officers...) and two Congressional Medals of Honor...

He was a lover of the marine corps and, later in life, a passionate isolationist... He wuz (...and still is...) right about a lot of things... He is worth studying and honoring...

Yeah, I was surprised to see that was by Feherty also, have read a couple of his books, have always admired him due to some shared personality similarities we've both had to rise above.   Great article and research, and had forgotten about his trips over to the war zones and his Troops First Foundation.

Thank you very much for posting this article. Men of his stature deserve far more than they ever receive.  It;s not right but then some  things in life back in the days of Vietnam seldom ever are.......jmho

The Col. was given plenty of recognition ....by his soldiers and buddies.....it is the Army way of life. He did his job, an excellent job, and was awarded time and again from those that "get it". My Dad is the same way.....
