general build glock question

I am thinking about changing my G30 gen 3 to a gen 3 sf by changing the receiver. Since the the serial numbers will not match the barrel is there any legal problems with doing this and using it as a carry gun?

what am I missing here?  they are the same gun except for the receiver. if you swap the slide from one to the other you have the same thing.

The receiver (frame) has a serial number as does the barrel and the slide which on a factory gun all match. If you change the receiver the serial number will be different from the barrel and slide.

Also the original gun is a standard g3, I want to change the receiver to a short frame. Edited by joe45

do you have a gen 3 30 now and going to buy a 30s receiver to put the gen 3 30 slide on? on a glock the receiver is the controlled component. you can mix and match glock serial numbers as long as you legally own the receiver. they call glocks with mismatched serial numbers frankenglocks. if buying just the receiver you will have to pass a background check. I assume you are buying a sf receiver to put the gen 3 slide on?

i would personally try to trade gun for gun unless you have a good deal on a frame only or have a ton of custom work into the slide...

price of the frame is about $230.00 complete (Fully functional), which is a lot cheaper then the complete gun. I have both the sf and regular g3 but I like the feel of the SF, that is why I want to convert the receiver on the regular. then if I ever sell the Gen 3 regular I will still have another SF frame as a spare.
